“Geez, I can’t believe you’re doing this, Kibum. It’s like, common sense not to…do what you’re about to do!” Onew furrowed his eyebrows as he watched his best friend try on various pieces of clothing.

“No, this guy is different!” Key turned his head to one side and tousled his hair a bit so that it didn’t look too stiff.

“How do you know? Which site did you meet him on?”

“Craigslist.”

“See? Nobody is ever safe of Craigslist. You’re just going to get raped, you know.” Onew stated a matter of factly.

“Nobody except this guy, I’m sure of it.” Key turned to cross his arms, staring straight at Onew.

“B-“ Onew started but Key cut him of by throwing an unwanted t-shirt at his face.

“Look, I’ve never dated before, and that is because everyone I’ve ever freaking known is straight. I can’t help that I’m attracted to guys, okay? And I’m getting old, might as well know somebody sooner or later. Besides, I’ve talked to this guy for a bit, he seems really nice and eager to find someone…like me.” Key smiled and pictured the guy’s face in his head, truthfully, he’d never seen the guy’s real face, but he trusted that it wasn’t someone hideous or anything.

“So in other words, you’re desperate…” Onew muttered but shut up as soon as he saw the piercing glare that his best friend shot in his direction,”…I’m actually gay, you know.”

“Really?” Key had an amused expression on his face.

“No, I just said that to make you feel better,…did it work?” Onew earned another glare from the diva,”…Okay, maybe not.”

“I’m going out now, Jinki. Whether you like it or not.” Key checked his reflection in the mirror and spun on his heels, stalking out of the room. Onew stared after him.

“Be safe! Don’t get mad when I get to say ‘told you’ after he attempts rape and you come running back to me!” He shouted. Sadly, Key didn’t hear the last part of his sentence and had already went running out the front door.

Onew shook his head and went to reheat some leftover chicken from this afternoon.

-

Key looked around the empty park and shivered, his date was an hour late…yet Key still waited.

Suddenly, a figure from afar seemed to be waving at him. Key stood and waved back timidly. Under the dim lights of the streets he could make out the male’s features as the guy advanced towards him. Key’s felt his smile subconsciously shrinking. The boy he had been waiting for turned out to be a man. A man who looked around the age of 50 to 55, he had a thick, bushy mustache and black rimmed glasses, to top it off, he had a huge pot belly.

This was not what Key had been picturing, he wanted to scream and run away, but he was frozen on the spot. By now, Key’s smile had completely vanished from his face, replacing it was a horrified expression, mouth hanging agape.

“Wow, you’re really beautiful…” The man smiled greasily and reached out to touch Key’s face as soon as he reached where the boy was standing. Key flinched and moved a step back. The man let out a disgusting bark of a laugh.

“Come, princess, don’t be scared, we’ll be spending a loooot of time together tonight…” The man snickered and reached out again to grab hold of Key’s arm, but Key was too fast. He went running off, screaming. He ran even faster as he heard the man start chasing after him. He made a sharp turn around a cluster of tall trees and jumped nimbly into a grassfield, rolling on his back until he was hidden under the thick bushes.

Key clamped a hand over his mouth as the man slowed down next to where he was hiding.

“PRINCESS? KEY?” The man called, panting, not knowing that the person he was looking for was right under his nose. Key shuddered as his nickname left the man’s lips, at least he haven’t told that swine his real name online. At the same time, he slapped himself for not listening to Onew.

After a while, the man gave up.

“Damn, I thought I’d hit the jackpot tonight…” He muttered as he stalked away.

Key watched the man’s ugly ass shoes disappear into the darkness of the night. He waited for half an hour, just to make sure the man wasn’t hiding and waiting for him to come out or anything, and then eventually came out of hiding.

The park was silent and dark, Key looked around as he brushed leaves off of his jacket, the jacket that he had saved and picked out for this ‘special’ date.

Stupid, I’m so very stupid, He thought and sighed. The boy didn’t feel like going back home, he didn’t want Onew to be right…or at least know that he was right. Though he would never show it, the stupid ‘told you’ that would spill out of Onew’s mouth once he goes back would just make Key feel even more hurt.

I guess I will never find someone afterall…Key thought sadly and walked out of the park. He didn’t even notice when tears gathered in his eyes and started falling rapidly. The boy chose to stop next to a brick wall, leaning on it while he cried.

He was crying so hard that he didn’t hear somebody stop in front of him.

“…Hey…are you…okay?” Key lifted his head to see a boy with huge, brown eyes looking at him with concern. He was really handsome, cheekbones highlighted in the dim of the streetlights, and he had really nice lips.

“Y-Y-Yea…” Key stuttered and hiccupped, he clamped a hand over his mouth to muffled the loud hiccups that came out. The other boy laughed, bringing the back of his hand to his mouth, eyes turning in to crescent moons.

He’s really attractive, Key mused to himself as another hiccup came out.

“Here, hold your breath for 30 seconds, it works for me.” The boy suggested. Kibum immediately tried, but his hiccups didn’t seem to stop. Frustrated, the boy stuck his bottom lip out and slouched his back. Once again, the other male laughed.

“Stay still!” He reached out and held Key’s shoulders, who jumped slightly at the sudden contact, but none the less stilled himself,”…Now, focus on something while holding your breath…uhh…how about my eyes.”

Key lifted his eyes and stared straight into the other boy’s deep brown eyes. He took a deep breath and started holding it.

“One…Two…Three…” The boy started counting and Key subconsciously let himself get lost in his eyes. They were really mesmerizing to look at, it was not until when the boy waved a hand in front of their eyes that Key realized he had been staring the whole time.

Key looked away shyly. Wow, this was so not the diva Key that he was used to being.

Then he noticed.

“Oh! My hiccups are gone!” He perked up, sadness long forgotten, and threw his arms around the boy, suddenly feeling a wave of thankfulness to the good looking stranger,”…Thank you so much!”

The boy laughed and scratched his head, a bit flustered.

“So…why were you crying?...if you don’t mind me asking, that is…” He quickly added.

“Oh, it’s nothing. I was just being stupid…” Key looked down.

“You don’t have to talk about it.” The other male patted Kibum’s shoulder understandingly,”…so…you hungry?”

Key looked up, was this guy safe?

He doesn’t look dangerous, at the least…

“Hey, I’m no rapist.” The boy laughed as soon as he saw the suspicious look in the other male’s eyes, which quickly disappeared and was replaced by an embarrassed one.

“Uh…it wouldn’t hurt to grab a bite, right?” Key bit his lip and smiled.

“I’ll take that as a yes. You see, I’m really hungry, I know just the place to eat! I heard they have the best dukbokki, never tried it but all the magazines recommend it, and guess what? It’s near my home! So I thought I could go today, but then I saw you-” The boy’s face broke into a huge grin, and he started chattering away while they walked away together.

-

After they ate a delicious dinner of dukbokki, they ran off like kids to play in the playground. The boy and Key threw leaves at each other, they bonded quickly in the short span of time spent together, both deciding that they very much liked each other.

Unbelievably enough though, Key never asked for the other boy’s name.

“Wait, Key. I know your name, but you still don’t know mine, so what did you save my number as in your phone?” The boy furrowed his eyebrows and tried peeking at the taller boy’s phone as they swung back and forth on the swings, Key turned away, not letting the boy see.

“Nothing.”

“C’mon, tell me.”

“Nah…”

“Please…”

“My hero.”

“Haha. Very funny, no really!”

“I’m serious, see?” Key turned his phone so that screen glowed brightly in the boy’s face. Sure enough, filed right under somebody called ‘My Hero’ was his phone number.

“Why?” The so called ‘Hero’ raised his eyebrows, amused.

“Well, you did kinda save me…” Kibum muttered, he was still sensitive about the subject looked down at his lap.

“…Sorry, I forgot you didn’t want to talk about it.” The boy said sheepishly.

“It’s okay.” Just then, a cold winter breeze blew through the park, making Key shiver in his jacket that was not exactly designed for winter. His newfound friend didn’t fail to notice.

“Hey, it’s getting late…I think you should go home.” He stood up abruptly from his swing.

Key looked up and took the boy’s outstretched hands, smiling at the gesture.

“Come on, I’ll walk you home.”

-

“Thanks for tonight, and you know…saving me.” Key shyly kicked at his welcome mat. He secretly prayed that Jinki had already gone home and was not secretly peeking out of the blinds at him. That would really ruin the mood.

“No problem…hey, we should hang out again…call me whenever you’re free.” The boy flipped his hair, unconscious of the fact that Key almost felt like melting right there on the spot because of this small flip of the hair.

“Okay…” Key smiled, and before he could think of what to say next, the boy had leaned in, so close that Key could practically feel him breathing on his face.

The boy hovered near his lips, Key closed his eyes. Suddenly, the shorter male shifted, and decidedly placed a peck on Key’s soft cheeks, which immediately turned cherry red.

“By the way, my name is Jonghyun.” Were the boy’s last words before dashing out onto the road and disappearing into the darkness of the night.

Key stood there for a moment, running his hand through his hair, before moving it down to touch the spot where Jonghyun had kissed, smiling blissfully. Suddenly, he thought of something. He rummaged around his shoulder bag and pulled out his phone. He clicked ‘edit’ on the contact ‘My Hero’, then renamed it.

‘My Hero Jonghyun’
