Who: Chitose and Kamio
What: Chitose and Kamio have a little talk.
When: Uh few weeks ago.
Rating: PG

Slogging through the sand towards the resting redhead Chitose let his shadow fall onto Kamio so as to announce his arrival. "Hey Kamio." Raising his hand he gave a lazy wave. "Found ya."

Kamio opened his eyes as the shadow came over him. "Good morning," he greeted. He'd been expecting Chitose because of his message. "What's up?"

"Not much." Smiling down at Kamio Chitose shrugged slightly. "Are you all worn out or are you up for taking a walk?"

"If you'll help me up, I could do with a walk," Kamio said with a easy smile, extending his hand. Walks made for nice cool downs.

"Sure." Enveloping Kamio's hand in his own, somewhat large one Chitose easily pulled the lithe runner to his feet waiting a moment before starting to meander along the beach away from the camp. "What have you been up to lately?"

Grateful for the hand up, Kamio quickly stretched his limbs before following. "Not too much," he admitted. "Mostly just training and choreographing," and thinking entirely too much, but that was unnecessary to have. "Did you have a good Christmas?" he hadn't seen too much of Chitose lately.

"It was pretty good." Lacing his arms behind his head Chitose barely remembered in time to take smaller steps so Kamio wouldn't have to run to keep up with him. "Finally got to catch up with a few people."

"Cool," Kamio commented. Chitose really didn't have to slow down for his sake; Kamio's steps might be smaller, but even going slow, he took twice as many. "Like who?" he asked curiously. If Chitose didn't want to tell him, that was okay, but he had to be curious. After all, Christmas was the time for dates.

"Ken-chan, Kuranosuke....Kippei's sister." Glancing at Kamio Chitose studied him curious to see what would happen when he mentioned Tachibana An.

Did he have a date with her? Kamio's back immediately straightened. Maybe that's what Chitose wanted to talk to him about -- that he was going out with An-chan!

Wait a second...he wouldn't have called her Kippei's sister if they were an item. That would be weird. Unless he was using her as a substitute for Tachibana himself...

Kamio tried to picture An dressed liked Tachibana-san.

That was also weird.

"...Oh," he remarked. Because he could think of nothing else to say.

Jackpot. Looking ahead again Chitose allowed himself a little smile. There was definitely something there now all he had to do was figure out where the lines of communication had crossed and turned into this messy tangle. "Yeah." He nodded. "She's been kind of down lately."

"Huh?" Kamio said, sounding like a dope. Wouldn't she be happy, having all of those suitors for Christmas? Unless.... "Why?! Did Shishido do something?!"

If he did something to hurt her, Kamio would pound him into the sand.

"No..." Chitose said and decided they had gone far enough came to stop. "She feels bad because apparently she has made you upset?" Just to make sure the little redheaded spitfire didn't take off he rested a heavy hand on a thin shoulder. "Now won't you tell me what has been going on with you two?"

If Kamio hadn't gone for a run to wipe most of the maniac energy from his body, he might have tried to take off or start yelling. Instead he sighed, shoulders drooping.

"I don't even know what to make of it anymore. Whenever I try to talk to her about it, she takes it the wrong way and I've gotta back off because I don't want to yell or do something stupid in her presence..."

"That's what I thought." Giving the slender shoulder a little squeeze Chitose nodded. "It's sometimes hard to communicate, especially when you feel strongly towards a person." Releasing Kamio he began to walk again. "Why don't you tell me what's been going on and we'll see if we can't work something out, hm?" Man Kippei would be so proud if he saw him take care of his little lost duckling.

"Well..." Kamio thought about how best to explain. "Are you sure you wanna hear about all of this? It's kind of a long story," he said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.

Though Chitose was no Tachibana, sometimes he gave off a similiar feeling of role model. Kamio wished he could be that calm. He wondered how Chitose could do it at all.

It must be the hair. It's big because it's full of secrets.

"Sure." Chitose nodded. "We're trapped on an island, it's not like I have anything better to do."

Kamio took a deep breath. Here goes nothing.

"IlikeAnandshesaysshelikesmebutIcan'tbelieveherbecausesheflirtswitheveryonesoMomoshiroandItrytoblocktheotherpeoplethatlikeherbutIsortofsomehowlikehimtoooratleastIlikefightingwithhimandIdon'tthinkeitherofuscouldbewithAnbecausesheisflirtingallthetimeanditmakesmeangryandIdon'twanttobeangryallthetime."

Kamio took a breath.

"AndItriedtotellAnthatheractionsdon'tmatchupwithherwordsandshethoughtIwascallingherawhorewhichItotallywasn'tthenshetoldeveryoneIcalledherawhorewhichIwouldneverdobecauseIloveher."

Chitose blinked, then blinked again. "And now one more time just slower."

Kamio, breathing a little bit deeply, condensed his story.

"I love An-chan, but I don't like who I am when I'm with her."

"Ahh." That made more sense. Chitose considered it. "Does it make you feel nervous, jealous and insecure?"

"It's more the jealousy than anything else," and it helped that he could share that jealousy with Momoshiro. It made those awful feelings more bearable and brought him closer to the Seigaku player. Looking back on their escapades...it was fun. "I tried to explain this to her, but she took it the wrong way and told everyone I called her a whore."

It really didn't help that An flirted with most of the guys, but he really didn't think she was a whore. A flirt, most definitely, but never a whore.

"I see." Chitose nodded slowly, again impressed by how difficult people could make life for themselves. "Maybe it would be best to start from the beginning again. Have you told An how you feel about her?"

"Yes," Kamio said, shoving his hands in his pockets. "The thing is...I'm not sure I want to start over. If she really liked me, I don't think she would flirt with as many people as she does." If he felt bad about it now, he would feel even worse if they were actually going out.

He didn't think he would ever be able to satisfy her.

"Maybe we're better off as friends. I don't really know what to make of it."

"Now, lets not rush anything," Shaking his head Chitose wondered if he should have brought a spray bottle like you used for training young dogs, or maybe smoked a second spliff before coming this way. "Before you go doubting the lady maybe you should think about things from her point of view for a moment."

Chitose's hair swayed oddly back and forth with the shake of his head. Maybe that hypnotized Kamio into not protesting and flying off into his own conclusions.

"Huh?"

"Well..." Chitose gestured. "Have you asked her out?"

"...We went on a date," Kamio said. He was pretty sure that counted.

"Oh?" That's what he got for being completely stone out of the loop most of the time. "How did that go?"

"I thought it went pretty well. We walked on the beach, I was teaching her to dance...but then she fell," that had kind of interrupted things. At least she was okay, Kamio had been so worried. "I bandaged her up."

Somehow, Kamio didn't think that was how a date should go.

"Have you been on many dates, Chitose-san?"

"Oh yes." Chitose waves his hand. "I'm a master of dating, kid." Which was pretty much a big fat lie. Sure he knew the stuff but as far as having actually been on one? Not so much.

Definitely -- hair full of secrets.

"How many dates have you been on?"

"Enough." Chitose tapped the side of his nose and gave Kamio a meaningful look. "So, did you tell her that you had fun? And want to go out with her again?"

Was his nose full of secrets too? Maybe.

"I was supposed to?"

"Well if you liked it, yes." Chitose bit back a sigh - what HAD Tachibana been teaching his boys. "It's just good manners for a man to take the lead."

"...How can I say I liked it if she got hurt? Isn't that mean?"

Besides, right after that she started hanging more around Shishido, letting him call her babe. If Kamio tried to call her that she would probably whack him and call him anti-feminist or something.

"How about telling her that you enjoyed it, except for that? The more you talk to each other the easier these kind of things are." Or at least that is what the relationship coaching book he had read at some point had claimed. "I'm sure she knows that you didn't mean for her to get hurt."

"...But what if she misunderstands?" Kamio asked. Chitose's hair knew more than he did.

"Why would you enjoy it if she got hurt?" Chitose barely resisted the urge to facepalm. "You're friends and you like each other - it's common sense." Of which Kamio seemed to have sadly been excluded.

"No...but what if she understands the enjoying myself bit and thinks I'm a pervert or something?!"

"...why would you be a pervert?" Now Chitose was completely flabbergasted.

"...I don't know," Kamio said. Now that he thought about it, that didn't really make sense. "But Marui called her a whore and I told him not to say stuff like that about her...and then she told everyone I called her a whore."

"Ah yes." That again. "We'll come to that a little later, all right?"

She might misunderstand his words like she did last time!

It's okay, the hair knows. Maybe it channeled Tachibana-san? He immediately stopped that thought -- it was a pretty stupid one.

"...Okay."

"Now..." Where had he been...ah yes, trying to understand each other. Reaching up Chitose scratched the back of his neck. "Now....what do you do all day since you've come to the island Kamio-kun?"

"...I run. Play tennis."

Fight with Momoshiro. That took up most of his time, actually.

"...Hang out. Gather food," he shrugged. "Why?"

"And what do you think An does all day?"

Get massages from Oshitari.

"I dunno, I figure about the same." Minus the fighting bit.

"She likes to run a lot?" This was like trying to pull teeth with funny string but thankfully Chitose was used to being around people that could be a little...slow at times.

"Okay maybe not run a lot..." Kamio stratched the back of his head. "But she probably trains, even if not in the same way."

"Probably." And here came the important part. "How much time do you think that takes up?"

"I don't know. I run for maybe two hours every morning, but I'm not sure how much time she spends on basic training," there was a lot more one could do than running. Though, Kamio had dance training on top of tennis training. It was probably different.

"I never asked her."

"That sounds like a good idea, maybe you could even train together some time?" Chitose gave Kamio's shoulder and encouraging pat. "But what I'm trying to say is...this island isn't exactly an ideal place for a young girl, you know? Not much to do and all her friends are back in Tokyo except for you and apparently Momoshiro."

"We could," Kamio liked the idea. He could always run a little bit slower. "....So you're saying she flirts to pass the time?" he concluded.

"Among other things." Chitose nodded, Eureka, there actually were two braincells to rub together under all that red hair, unlike with his own redheaded team mate. "She's trying to make friends and it's difficult for a girl alone on an island full of boys. As long as all she does is flirting it's harmless fun, really."

Chitose had a valid point.

"....I guess that makes sense....sort of. But that's not going to change my feelings," he said, after thinking for a long moment. "I think that girls and boys can be friends without a relationship, and without flirting. It doesn't bother me that she has friends, I'm glad she's getting along with people..."

Kamio tended to wear his heart on his sleeve, so he got hurt when he saw An act like that with other guys.

"Even if I know that, it still hurts. I don't want to ignore that and have it be resentment between us."

"And that's perfectly understandable." Chitose rested his arm on Kamio's shoulders as they continued to amble aimlessly along the beach. "But have you thought about the fact that maybe if you flirted more with her she wouldn't need to be doing it with other people`"

Chitose was comforting and gave good advice. Kamio just had one issue.

"But...I don't know how to flirt."

"Really?" Chitose chuckled, "well - I'd say you've seen enough to give it a try though." After all if he knew what he didn't like then it shouldn't be hard to work out his own style. "Just be yourself and give the other person the impression that you are interested in them."

"Oh..." but hadn't he given An-chan that impression already. "But I told her I liked her. Does that count as flirting, Chitose-san?" he looked up at the more knowledgable teen.

"hmm." Never having had much use for flirting himself Chitose considered it. "that sounds more like an advanced step already."

"Yeah..." Kamio said. "Though...it's even more complicated than that," he hung his head and sighed. "There's somebody else I like too."

"Really?" Chitose reached up and scratched his head. "The same way you like An?"

"...Well, he's not at all like An-chan...so I can't really like him the same way," Kamio attempted to picture treating Momoshiro the way he treated An.

Ew. Never.

"But I think whatever's there is just as strong. Have you ever liked two people at the same time, Chitose-san?"

"In a way." Chitose admitted . "Who is it?"

"...Some idiot," Kamio huffed. "What did you do about it?"

"Ah." Well that only included about 75% of the island populous. "Nothing." Chitose shrugged as he decided not to press Kamio on this mysterious idiot. "So how does he feel about you?

"...I dunno," Kamio shrugged. " "You did nothing? You mean nothing about your feelings for either one?"

"Yeah." Combing his fingers through his hair Chitose thought back to it. "Why, what do you plan on doing?"

Not even the hair seemed to have any answers to his predicament.

"I haven't figured that out yet."

"You know..." Taking a deep breath Chitose wondered if what he was about to say wouldn't end up breaking An's heart - he really hoped not, not least of all because Kippei would have his head on a stick for it. "When you feel like this about two people you have to think very carefully. There are other reasons why it can feel like you like somebody without actually ...well, liking them."

"Huh....?"

Was Chitose suggesting that he didn't really like An? Or that he didn't like Momoshiro? Or both?

"...I don't understand. How can that happen?"

"A lot of different ways." Tugging Kamio closet Chitose kept a careful eye on the expressive redhead's face. "Especially when you haven't dated before it can be very confusing." Gods help him but he was not having the puberty talk with Kamio. "Sometimes you like somebody but only as a very dear friend - but become jealous of the people this person is flirting with because you don't want to lose them. Or you used to have a crush on somebody for the longest time but as over time your feelings change without you realising it.

"....Wait...you don't believe that I really like An-chan, do you?!" Kamio said, finally picking up on what Chitose was suggesting. "I might not be the brightest guy in the world, but I'd never play with her feelings like that, or belittle my own."

"I'm not saying you are doing it on purpose." Chitose tried to calm Kamio.

Kamio grumbled and jerked out from under Chitose's arm. "I'm not that kind of guy."

Always with the spikey temper Chitose sighed. "So you're saying wanting An and that mystery guy of yours is better than maybe not liking her at all?

"To me, yes it is," Kamio said. He didn't want to think that his heart could lie to him, or that he could lie to An-chan. "If I didn't really like An-chan, I wouldn't have told her that I did. That's not something that can be said lightly, Chitose-san."

"Then what are you going to do Kamio-kun? Admittedly you are in a much better situation since An also likes two people but really - how many people do you want to have in this relationship? It's just never ending." Chitose shook his head with a little sigh. "Sooner or later you may have to decide."

Did he and An have a relationship? If so, what part did Momoshiro play in it?

"I don't know what I'm gonna do. Just try to be honest with both of them, I guess..." Kamio needed to figure out how to be honest with himself first. "What would you do?" he looked up at Chitose.

"For this one you shouldn't take me as example." Chitose smiled wryly. "Waiting until they make up their mind usually ends with you being the odd one out."

Kamio's eyes were wide with surprise. "Is that what happened to you?"

"Something like it. It's the risk of trying to sit on two chairs at the same time, you can land up sitting on your ass with no chair at all." Somehow Chitose could almost see why Tachibana had been pulled in by those wide, trusting and hopeful eyes. "You've got to make up your mind and work for what you want or it might not happen."

"But if I did that..." Kamio realized, "One of them would be unhappy." That didn't sit well with him at all. He wanted both of the people he cared about to be happy, and he wanted to be in the picture there with them. Was that so hard?

"Do you regret it?" Kamio asked, "Not being able to make up your mind?"

"Some days." Poor thing, Kamio apparently hadn't really realized that you could never make everybody happy especially in the matters of the heart. "But generally I just see it as a part of my past that has created my present and I am quite happy with who and where I am today."

Slowly, Kamio nodded and sat down on the sand. "You've given me a lot to think about, Chitose-san," he said, expression serious. "But can I ask you just one more thing?" he looked up at the tall teen.

"Sure, ask anything, anytime." Peering down at Kamio Chitose nodded.

"How do you get your hair to stay like that?"

"Salty fresh air and genetics." Shaking his head Chitose chuckled. "Anything else?"

Oh, so it was salt.

Kamio shook his head, "Unless you count 'wanna play a match?' as a question."

"I think it counts - but sure. We can play whenever you're free." Reaching down Chitose ruffled Kamio's hair. "And little red, if you find yourself being jealous in a way you don't like try telling yourself that you can trust her, okay?"

"I will," he promised. He had always trusted An-chan before, he didn't know why it was so hard to do now. "And if on the some days that you're regretful you want to talk about it, or if you just want some company....You can come to me, if you want."

After saying something so mushy, his face was pink. "I'm free now, if you wanna play," all this talk of romance and lost love was too sentimental.

"Sure, let me pick up my racket and we can get started." Biting back a chuckle at Kamio's face tinting much the same colour as his hair Chitose waved. "Back in a bit."
quelleperedhil22 (9:49:32 PM): Kamio waved back and watched Chitose disappear along the beach, hair bobbing as he went. Laying back on the sand, Kamio sighed.

It was hard, but somehow, he knew now that it would all be okay. Eventually. After all, he was lucky enough to have awesome friends.
