Shishido looked at the spiky-haired tennis player and wondered what the hell got him paired up with the idiot. "We can't move if I'm not on your shoulders, baka."
Momoshiro was making his move. Kamio saw the empty water, and decided that if they got there first, they were more likely to win. "COME ON!" he yelled, turning to Akutsu. Grabbing the teen's wrist, he started to run toward the water. "WE HAVE TO GET THERE BEFORE MOMOSHIRO!"
Akutsu rolled his eyes and snuffed out his cigarette. "Relax, willya? First in doesn't mean first place, and the water ain't goin' nowhere." Well. At least this particular redhead seemed to have plenty of energy. That would come in handy...
Kamio dug his feet in the sand, trying to pull Akutsu along. "No, but then we have the chance to get people," he pulled, sending sand flying, "Before they can perfect their balance."
It was fun, watching Kamio struggle, but Akutsu pried Kamio's hand off him. "There's plenty of time for that. We've got all day." He pulled off his shirt and tossed it to the sand. It was going to be interesting, with someone so energetic.... "Besides. Your precious Momoshiro's not even in yet." Akutsu just hoped Kamio didn't end up knocking himself off.
Sanada tugged down his hat more over his eyes. His impression of Hyoutei, as a whole, was not improving at all. Then again, at least the teen before him had the forethought to see that he didn't have the constitution to knock other people on their asses. "Yes." He knew exactly who to go after.
Choutarou nodded again and followed the other boy into the water, slipping ahead after a bit to duck under the waves. Shivering slightly at the cold, he surfaced and shook the water out of his eyes. He dragged a hand through now-pewter waves and smiled shyly at Sanada, dropping until he was at an easy height for the other boy to climb on.
Sanada frowned, hoping that the nervousness that was rolling off Ohtori would dissipate rapidly. He knew exactly who to blame should their team lose. He walked behind the taller player until he was wading in the water. As Ohtori lowered himself, Sanada situated himself on the other's shoulders. It was a bit shaky at first, but he hoped Ohtori would get his footing. They had practiced. "Are you good?"
Glancing around the other competitors Hiyoshi located Yukimura then gave the slender captain a curt nod before striding toward the waves. The sooner thy got started the sooner they could finish kicking ass and taking names. Hopefully some of the awe Yukimura commanded on the court would be on their side during this watery battle as well.
"Hello Hiyoshi-kun," Yukimura began with a smile. His partner was a fierce competitor, and he had no doubt that they would win. "Are you ready for me to climb up?"
"Yukimura-san." Hiyoshi returned the greeting then inclined his head in agreement. Lowering himself so Yukimura could climb on his shoulders almost required him to be on his knees due to their similar heights but he knew from their practice that Yukimura's solid weight was easy enough to handle, especially in the water. The blond second year captain didn't bother to ask who they should go after first either - after all they had already discussed it prior to the start and it was bound to give them an advantage at least at the start.
Scanning the horizon for Atobe and Bunta's form, Yukimura sighed when he saw that they were not even up yet. Bunta would be running laps later for his laziness. "Considering our first target is not up yet..." Yukimura commented. "Shall we wait or target someone else?"
Why was it, Atobe wondered, that half his team had been paired with Rikkaidai? With a sigh of resignation, he set off along the beach looking for the red headed member of the team in question. Undoubtedly, he'd only have to follow the cake crumbs.
Marui was busy sprawling on the beach, watching everyone else get into formation while he waited for the peacock to show up. Finally, he saw Atobe's form come into view and waved lazily.
He still could not really believe they were teammates.
