Introduction

Name: Heather Williams
Age: 17
Location: Rhode Island
Nicknames, or what you prefer to be called: Heathy

About You

Three positive adjectives about yourself: I would describe myself as out-going, persistent, and kind (or I would like to think that I am).
Three negative adjectives about yourself: Although I don’t like to admit it, I am self-absorbed, oblivious, and selfish
A few of your likes: I enjoy a lot of physical activities. I love to sail, play some soccer or just run around. I also enjoy photography, the theatre, reading and a mess of other things.
A few of your dislikes: History - I hate history. I cannot stand memorizing facts that I know I will never need to know. And - as for my other dislikes, well, I am blanking out… but they fall under pet peeves I suppose.
A few of your pet peeves: hypocrites - that is my major pet peeve. I am also not that found of liars, and people who will not give a person a chance to prove themselves.
A few of your talents and hobbies (please differentiate between the two): For my supposed “talents”: I am a rather good sailor. Growing up in Rhode Island, I am near the water all the time, so I am actually a good racer. I also would consider myself an exceptional dancer. For my hobbies, I love resting in the sun (this makes me miss Florida, from which I just returned from). This sure makes me sound lazy, and I am. I also love to draw, cook and
Where do you see yourself in ten years (include things like the job you’d like to have, where you’d like to live, if you are married or not, etc): In 10 years… so 27. I would enjoy seeing myself married… that is, if I found someone I cared about. While I do tend to be a loner sometimes, I would love someone to call my significant other. I hope to have a teaching job at a local elementary school, or maybe a child social worker. As for where I would want to live, I really cannot see that. In fact, I really have no idea where I will be. For right now, I am sort of hoping that I will be alive.
Your motto on life, or how you like to live it: I don’t really follow anyone’s mottos. I just live life the way I want it. I don’t like people telling me what to do. I guess I just live life to the fullest. I act on impulse a lot, but I sometimes give things a bit of thought if it means something to me.
Your three favorite books and why they’re your favorites:
First of all - that is a cruel question! I guess this will mostly be me putting down the first three books I see.

The Kite Runner: Sure, this may sound like another summer reading book, but it is a lot more than that. This book is really powerful and lays out the story of a person who did something they regretted in their childhood, and how it affects him. It brings up possible debates on what is right and wrong - who the real victim is and family values. It is such a wonderful story, which, I must add, brought me close to tears while reading it. I would highly recommend this book.

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West: I really enjoyed this book and what it had to offer. It brings up the common theme “do not judge a book by its cover”. It is the story of the witch from the beloved book and movie, the Wizard of Oz, and the life she had to endure. It brings up the issue of how most things today - especially in high school - depend on how one looks (for the most part). So having green skin isn’t exactly the best way to get positive attention. The story details her life up until she is killed by Dorothy. It allows the reader to see how people usually judge at least 85 % of a complete stranger by how they look.

1984: Wonderful novel. I read it at least 3 times this year. To make the explanation a little… shorter, it is very V for Vendetta like. It was written in the late 40’s, and it paints the picture of a world that isn’t so happy. England has become this great country - ruled by a supposed “Big Brother”. People are kept clueless, and the language is slowly being destroyed, therefore, making it nearly impossible for one person to think for themselves. The story focuses on a person who works for the government, and slowly begins to retaliate against everything he so willing went along with for the past several years.

Your three favorite movies and why they’re your favorites:
Another difficult questions, for I rarely call a movie “a favorite”.

The Wizard of Oz: No matter how many times I watch that movie, I will always adore it. I grew up watching it, and it is just such an amazing piece of work, which is thanks to the wonderful novel. I always loved Dorothy, and I too have always just wanted to get away from reality and float off into a place where there are no rules - just magic. I also love how it brings into play the fact that a person might seem wonderful, but isn’t exactly the greatest person of all. I am, of course, talking about the Wizard. I guess the main reason I am attached to it is thanks to childhood memories.

RENT: This might be pushing the envelope, but musical or not, I love the story and what it has to offer. Many people hear RENT and go “Oh my god AIDS”, but it isn’t just about AIDS. The original story talked about the plague. But what the story is truly about is family and friends. The world can see a lot less bright when you don’t have someone to share it with. Even a character like Roger, who feels alone, finds some happiness in the people he spends the most time with. No matter what, people should learn to turn to the ones they love for support - which surprisingly, a lot of people have trouble with.

Center Stage: This movie is about dancers trying to make it into the American Company - where a lot of the greatest dancers go. Now, before you say that it is another dance movie, I would like to say that it has a little more to offer. While yes, all of the girls are dancers, it talks about a passion that these girls will do anything for. It shows how something can destroy a person’s life when this passion isn’t about enjoying what it has to offer, but making sure that you are number one. People need to realize that some things are not worth destroying their life over. When someone becomes unhappy doing something they use to love - it is time to stop, and that is what the movie focouses on.

Honorable mentions: Harry Potter movies, Dead Poet Society, Star Wars movies, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and X-Men.

Where do you feel most at home? It is hard to describe, but just where I feel happy. I mean, I call Rhode Island my home, and I am content with it. I also feel very at home in New York City where I see my friends and I get to roam around the city and see wonderful shows. My final home is Disney World. It may be corny, but I have gone every year at least once for the past 14 years. I cannot help but feel attached to it, and every time I go, I always enjoy myself, and my heart feels at rest.

Pirates Related

Why do you like Pirates of the Caribbean?: Well, as I mentioned above, I have been to Disney World quite a few times. So, I of course went on the ride. That is the original reason I went to see the movie. No one expected it to be as big as it was - and that is why it makes it so great, or at least it is one of the reasons. The movie took everyone by surprise. It is funny, action-packed, romantic and just enjoyable. It has a wonderful cast, and it is amazing to see how the storywriters took a ride and made it into an amazing movie. There are just too many reasons for why I love it.
Who’s your favorite character and why? (This does not mean who you feel you’re most like): I love all of the characters. I really love Jack Sparrow - and his wish to be free. I love how he plays such a humorous role, but at the same time can be serious. I love Will Turner, and his ambition to get Elizabeth back. (Although it makes me realize how lazy I am). I love Norrington - because he had so much to offer, and I was very upset (yet happy… oh the dilemma) when Elizabeth turned him down. I MOSTLY love Jack Sparrow because he is such an excellent character. But that is really a tough question. I also love Ragetti. I was so excited when he got a bigger part in the second movie!
Who do you feel you are least like in Pirates and why? I am bad a character analysis. I don’t know if there is a person I don’t see myself as. I feel as though I reflect all of the characters, and that I am not just one character. I believe I possess a lot of different characteristics from each character. I, however, would like to think that I am least like Barbossa, but then again, I admit that I am a bit selfish like he is. So I really don’t know if I can answer this question!
