It's abundantly clear why he's still being read well beyond his time. And, as mentioned, I do appreciate his being one of the few classic authors who've given snakes a good press. (Come to think of it, I don't know of any others.)
I read this last night at fanfiction.net, but I thought I'd just leave a little note here, too, so you don't feel ignored at LJ! Very funny story, I forgot to mention in my ffnet review that I love how the rats fled the ship. lol.
When it comes to preserving their own mangy little hides, rats are actually rather competent. That's exactly why it's so difficult to get rid of the pests.
