Mary-You #7

And so, I breathe a sigh of relief as we arrive at this, our final YouJack. mylla directed me towards this one. Sometimes, I think she's trying to kill me.

Oh dear lord. The scary thing is, I started reading this fic by myself simply because it seemed to start as the impossible: a Norrington!Sue, which I really wanted to see just for amusement's sake (plus poor Norrington needs some tender loving from someone ^_^). I gave up at around the 4th chapter because it was badly written. Now I know what I was saved from.

I just have no words. I just love how rape is so easily fixed by a hawt guy. Rape shelters should be alerted to this fact so that they can hire Orlando Bloom, David Boreanaz and Colin Firth as their new counselors (of course, such an act would guarantee *I* would spend more time volunteering at said shelters, *cough*cough*ahem).

From Nobody...

Errm, she does in fact fall in love with someone else, right? because as romantically as you wrote this story, it's just, the commodore! Ew. Yuck. But you wrote the story very professionally! Nicely done!

From some other reviewer...
Jakc kissed me!! Opps Im married. Oh well. Mabye Norrington can conviently die...

I deliberately didn’t touch the rape issue. But look at her reviews and weep for the species.

The reviews are ALL positive, which makes me suspect that she's deleting the bad ones. Even a good fic gets a few grumps; something like this ought to have at least a couple people protesting the awfulness.

I read your review. *throws party*

What are the odds you'll get a flame in return?

I loathe "You/CanonCharacter" PotC fanfiction with a passion of a thousand suns. But this one? This one greatly disturbs me due to these so-called "rapings". It also disturbs me that a person would go into detail about someone raping me and then describing my rapist's actions and words as well as my own. No. Just no.

His first response was an arched eyebrow. "Surely an experienced captain such as yourself knows that when the crew is willing to co-operate it makes the day a lot easier then if they argued with everything you said to them. I can ensure that I will give you no trouble over any task if you leave Port Royal," you smirk to yourself, thinking you have the upper hand.

[...]

He continues to watch you in a disturbing manner. "Is there anything you want me to do?" you ask hearing the crew shouting, thinking that maybe they needed another set of hands.

Maybe the author would say such things in a situation like this, but I don't appreciate her portraying me as a clueless and naive woman.

The captain, as he preferred to be ( ... )

Okay, the Mary-You phenomenon is disturbing enough when it involves I-Am-A-Sue just having romantic relationships with Jack, or Legolas, or Draco, or whoever.

But when it involves explicit rape -- no. Just NO.

It's *deeply* troubling to think this may actually represent someone's intimate fantasies.
