Sometimes, when I play with the search feature at the Pit, I scare myself. Today is a good example. I give you All For a Bloody Thesis, which features one Ginny "Car" Weasley going back in time, presumably to frolic with Jack Sparrow. Car is short for "Carrot" and is a nickname given to her by "Draco Malfoy, her best friend, [who is] entirely and ( Read more... )

By God, you are braver than I am. I saw this one on the Pit and avoided it like the plague.

Let's begin here, shall we?: Though, sorry to have to ask, but what do you mean by POV? *headdeskheaddesk*

Personally I think this explains a lot.

Here are two things I loved: "or I shall transperce your heart." and I want the best cabin on your mangly ship Whee! I want to transperce the mangly Suethor!

And the other thing that leaps out at me (!) is, how did she learn to speak the King's English living with Pintel?

Ah, well, this is why we love to hate the Sues.

That's interesting. araeph February 10 2004, 16:05:31 UTC
"I said and will now repeat... Do not make a move...or I shall transperce your heart."

Transperce?

I've never heard of that term.

Neither, apparently, has dictionary.com.

That what happens, I suppose, when writers have vocabulary bases too broad for their overall grasp of the language. I think the author meant "transpierce", which is terribly odd diction for a pirate wench.

Now, riddle me this. The Sue was raised by Pintel. In the fic, Pintel talks like this-"Ther' may be 'naught but tears teh cry upon m'whithr'd arm, bu' I'd see m'self dead, buried an' all, before y'cem teh h'rm."--which is in itself a most PPC-able offense ( ... )

Will end up his one true love, most likely.

*smacks self* I read that as "Will ends up his one true love" and wondered why the author bothered with her Sue, in that case.

:p

Jack seems surprisingly in character in this one, doesn't he? Or am I so blinded by all the hideous OOC-ness going around that I can't see true IC-ness any more?

And I'm impressed by the acceptance of OMG FLAMES!!1 constructive criticism.

But... uh... Pintel found a kid on an island (what was he doing there? what was it doing there?) and raised it? Pintel? And then he went where? And how does this fit in with the movie?

And yeah, what the people above me said about language.

If a fic burns like this one, can we kill it with fire, or is it like Final Fantasy where we need some kind of freezing mechanism?

Perhaps some sort of bad-fic-eating bacteria is the way to go.

A single tear made it's way down her cheek.

*ignores improper use of apostrophe*

I believe the Single Tear is one of the single most cliched elements of bad fics.

(Of course, if this author doesn't know what "POV" means, she may also not know this important information about the overuse of that poor little teardrop.)
