This is a short screenplay I wrote for my screenwriting class. It was supposed to be based on a song so I choose week. I used NEWS as the characters. (and no Mr. Tanaka is NOT Koki Tanaka from KAT-TUN ><) This is the first screenplay I've ever written!!

INT-SHIGEAKI’S BEDROOM-DAY

In a small apartment in the middle of Tokyo, an alarm clock showing the time 8:30am blares and KATO SHIGEAKI, 24, reaches out from under a pile of covers to turn it off. He looks at the time.

SHIGEAKI
Shit!

He quickly gets up and races around the room quickly washing his face, brushing his teeth and getting dressed.

INT-Hallway-DAY

Shigeaki looks in the mirror in the hall before he is going to leave. He straightens his tie

SHIGEAKI
Alright. Even though I woke up late, I’m sure today will be a good day

He doesn’t realize that he left his lunch in the refrigerator as he walks out the door.

INT- Train station-DAY

Shigeaki enters the crowded train station, as he is about to go through the turnstile he sees his train pull up and rushes towards it along with all the other commuters in the station. He barely makes it on the train on time and is stuck standing between all of the other commuters with no room to move.

EXT-Outside SUCH AND SUCH-DAY

Shigeaki walks quickly into SUCH AND SUCH ADVERTISING looking at his watch with a worried expression.

INT-SUCH AND SUCH LOBBY-DAY

Shigeaki rushes past the café where the barista KEI KOYAMA, 24, waves at him

KEI
Good Morning Shige!

Shigeaki gives him a half hearted smile waves in response as he rushes towards the elevators.

He reaches the elevators and sees a sign that reads “All elevators down due to maintenance ”
Shigeaki groans angrily

SHIGEAKI
Seriously? Why did they have to do this on a WEDNESDAY and not the weekend! I have to be in the office in 5 minutes!

Shigeaki turns towards the stairs and opens the door

SHIGEAKI
Why does my office have to be on the 10th floor….

INT-SUCH AND SUCH OFFICE-DAY
Shigeaki walks as inconspicuously as he can towards his desk, when he is almost there his boss, MR TANAKA steps out of his office and stands at the door. Shigeaki freezes.

MR. TANAKA
KATO! MY OFFICE. NOW.

Shigeaki sighs and walks towards the office. Mr. Tanaka goes back into his office.

INT- Mr. Tanaka’s office-DAY

Shigeaki stands in front of Mr. Tanaka’s desk looking at his shoes. Mr. Tanaka sits behind his desk glaring at Shigeaki, obviously very angry.

MR. TANAKA
You are two minutes late! This is unacceptable!

Shigeaki looks up to say something but is cut off. He looks back down at his shoes.

MR TANAKA
(continues)
I don’t want to hear your excuses! Late is late! I’m letting you off easy this time, but next time you are even 30 seconds late there will be consequences!

SHIGEAKI
Yes, sir. I understand. I won’t be late again.

MR. TANAKA
Good. Now, these reports you turned in yesterday-

Mr. Tanaka shakes a stack of papers in Shigeaki’s face.

MR. TANAKA
They’re crap. Do them over. I want them by lunch.

Shigeaki takes the papers without a word and leaves the office with his head still down.

INT-Shigeaki’s desk-DAY

Shigeaki sits down at his desk and shuffles through the papers. YUYA TEGOSHI, who sits at the desk across from Shigeaki, and is Shigeaki’s junior in the company, gets his attention.

YUYA
Aren’t those the reports you worked all week on? Did Mr. Tanaka want you to redo them?

Shigeaki looks up from the papers to look at Yuya.

SHIGEAKI
Yeah. I don’t know how I’m going to do it. He wants them by lunch!

YUYA
You can do it Shige! Shige is smart and the best one in the entire company!

Shigeaki gives Yuya a halfhearted smile. Yuya goes back to working on his laptop and Shigeaki looks back at his papers.

SHIGEAKI
(mostly to himself)
I sure hope so…. Today sucks

INT-Shigeaki’s Desk-DAY

Shigeaki is typing on his laptop furiously. It is almost lunch time. He finishes typing with 5 minutes to spare and emails the redone reports to Mr. Tanaka.

SHIGEAKI
There. Done. Now I can take my lunch break.

Shgeaki opens the bottom drawer to his desk. The only thing he sees is papers and a large empty space roughly the size of a lunch box.

SHIGEAKI
Oh no. I can’t believe I forgot my lunch! I was really looking forward to that too! Looks like I’ll have to buy something at the café…

INT-CAFÉ-DAY

Kei hands Shigeaki a cup of coffee and a premade half sandwich. Shige gives Kei a grateful smile.

KEI
Rough Day?

Shigeaki sighs.

SHIGEAKI
Yeah. I woke up late, got chewed out by my boss for being two minutes late for work, had to redo a weeks worth of work in a few hours, and I forgot my lunch at home. Today has not been my day.

Kei smiles and reaches across the counter to pat Shigeaki on the shoulder.

KEI
It’s okay Shige! We all have bad days. And today is already halfway done! Plus, You got to talk to me today so it can’t be all bad!

Shigeaki laughs.

SHIGEAKI
I guess that’s true. Thanks for talking to me. I’ll call you about Saturday okay?

Kei nods and Shigeaki turns and leaves the café.

EXT- Roof- DAY

Shigeaki is leaning on the railing on the roof of his office building looking up at the clear sky over looking the city of Tokyo. He is enjoying the warm weather. His suit jacket is draped over the railing next to him and his sleeves are rolled up. A refreshing breeze blows past him and tossels his hair slightly. Shigeaki closes his eyes to enjoy the warm breeze.

He straightens up, takes a deep breath and screams at the top of his lungs.

After he finishes screaming. He smiles picks up his jacket and leaves the roof.

INT-Shigeaki’s desk- DAY

Shigeaki is at his desk going over some papers when he notices Yuya leaving.

YUYA
Bye Shige! Don’t work too hard okay!

Shigeaki waves goodbye and looks at his clock. 5:10pm. He sighs in relief, shuts down his computer and grabs his briefcase. He leaves the office for the day.

EXT- Sidewalk- DAY

Shigeaki is walking on the sidewalk along with others dressed in dark suits on their way home. He has his jacket off again. It is draped over his arm, his sleeves rolled up again. He loosens his tie a little.

SHIGEAKI
Tomorrow will definitely be a better day.

Hope you liked it!!
