As promised, I assigned detention to Gryffindor House for Potter's inattention in class. Friday at three o'clock in the afternoon, all seven years converged on the Quidditch Field to do a bit of fertilization.

You would think Mr. Potter would have the decency to be the slightest bit abashed that others are paying for his mess-ups. But I was proven wrong. Not only did he go on his accursed motorcycle flight with his infantile godfather, he had the nerve to soar over the Quidditch Pitch while doing so!

It was almost pathetic to see the little runts stop their manual toil to wave at their Boy Wonder. Perhaps it is because he holds the entirety of Gryffindor under his thrall. Hopefully, for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw's sake, he will shape up. Though seeing others pay for his ineptitude and not feeling the least bit remorseful is showing a rather callous side of Mr. Potter that I thought I'd never see. Every "hero" has a tragic flaw, apparently.

And Sirius Black is practically a child. Zipping around on that metal monstrosity as if it were the greatest thing since butterbeer was first fermented. It was not to be borne!

"Gee, Professor Snape," you cry, "You don't have to be so mean. What's the harm in a little fun?"

Well, if fun was what that man was after, I could have provided a chew bone for his entertainment. But I'm sure that flying around like a baffled twit is marginally more entertaining than chasing your own tail.

Following the overseeing of the Gryffindor detention, I did manage to owl Lucius a quick letter to keep him appraised of how his son's studies were going, what latest research project I was undertaking, and general current events. To my complete delight, he immediately wrote back with a last minute invitation to spend the weekend at Malfoy Manor.

Considering that Lucius and Narcissa have impeccable taste and always manage to provide witty and entertaining conversation, I would have to have been mad to refuse. Of course, Sir Martyr objected to the fact that the Headmaster gave me weekend leave while he had to provide after hours watch this past weekend. Ha and ha again.

So, regardless of what Mr. Milkbone thought, I had a very pleasant and relaxing weekend. Lucius shares the same love of chocolate and ice cream that I do. As I've said before, it's the small things that really count.
