Notes from a class on posthumanism

I've always thought of posthumanism as this thing with cyborgs and genetic engineering. In fact, the majority of the class' discussions centred around those two topics. Then the last class, combined with my own research, kind of shook me when a realization fell into place ( Read more... )

I dunno man. If Monsanto is a computer program, it could be argued that the Roman Empire was a computer program. This shit stinks, but it ain't new.

Also, a _class on posthumanism_. You lucky swine. :)

Well, you could theoretically get away from the Roman Empire. Also, if you assassinated Cesar, another one might just pop into place, but it's not an empire that's built for continuity regardless of who's "in charge".

I have to confess the _scale_ of this is new. I think that comes down to energy -- energy annihilates distance, and we have just a sick amount of the stuff to play with (for now). This massive energy budget has permitted the realization all kinds of sociopathic dreams, but those dreams have been there since the dawn of time.
