She was waiting.
It was two weeks to Christmas and the Being Division, in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, were holding their annual Christmas party. Someone really should have thought of an easier name for the department, she thought. At the Christmas party last year, Jack Sloper and Marianne Davies had been caught shagging in one of the meeting rooms. Fortunately the bosses hadn't heard about it, but by the time she had started working there, everyone else was telling the story.
This year she planned on being the one being shagged senseless.
Since she'd been assigned to the same team that Remus worked on, they had spent most lunches together. At least when he was in the building. Mostly though, she was stuck poring over reports with Marianne while he got to go and do field work. Ok, so it was interesting, and it was good experience, and she had only just graduated and couldn't expect to do all of the interesting work. But, still...
She had left a message on his desk, the one he used when he was in the office, to say that she had something she really needed to tell him. She left just enough of a hint that it might be related to her brother, or Harry. It wasn't just the twins who had some sneak in them. She had as much mischievousness as they did, and she didn't get caught. It's just, sometimes, she had some darkness too.
The light was turned off in this room. There was enough from outside. There wasn't much she could do to make the room more comfortable - or seductive. She couldn't hide the large glass table where she'd sat listening him talk about his interviews with other werewolves. And she couldn't do any magic in here without alerting the security staff to her presence.
She didn't want anyone to find them.
She stood up and walked over to the window. Even though she knew that it looked like a solid wall to any Muggles on the outside, the view was currently a night sky over Athens. He'd visited there on one of his missions for the Order. He said that he liked the way the Acropolis lit up the sky from everywhere in Athens. At least that was one magic that could be done without alerting anyone.
She didn't want him to run away.
She turned around at the sound of the door opening.
"Ginny?" he asked into the room. She could see his hand going to his wand to light the room.
"I'm here." She replied. "Don't turn on the light, yet." She didn't want to see his face if he rejected this. Her.
"Are you all right?" he asked walking up to her and putting a hand on her shoulder. They'd become friends, at least.
"Yes," she replied. She wanted to kiss him.
"What about your family? It sounded like there was something that you needed to talk about in the note." He brought his hand back down to his side.
"Oh, that's right, Harry's getting married." She knew that everyone was expecting her to break down over this at home. Remnants of a childhood crush that she had well and truly gotten over, oh, in about fourth year. "I thought you'd like to know. Ron's the best man. And even though Harry didn't want him telling everyone until he'd told Dumbledore, and you, Ron let us all know. Now you can tease him mercilessly about knowing before he told you." I'm babbling, she thought. He's smiling.
"Thanks." His smile is magic. "Are you sure you're fine? It's not like you to be hiding in a corner when there are people around." She smiled at him.
"I've got something else I wanted to talk to you about. But I'm not sure how you're going to feel about this." I'm not a child any more, she reminded herself. I'm an adult and if he rejects this, at least it's between two adults.
"Sure." He pulled out one of the chairs and sat down, waiting. She paused, and then pulled out a chair and sat in front of him.
"I've really enjoyed getting to know you over the past few months." There that was a good way to start. "And, uh," she looked away towards the window. "Can I finish this before you say anything?" She turned back to face him.
"Yes, Ginny." He was still sitting there patiently waiting. It was one of the most appealing things about him. There was the leashed danger that you could feel from all of the werewolves that she had met during her work. But there was also a layer of calm. Like he'd come to some kind of balance within himself. "Go on."
"Ok, I know that you're a werewolf, and that your twenty years older than me, " but I want to shag you senseless, she thought. "Um, we've been spending a lot of time together." Work, family, the hours talking after we'd finished with meetings and field trips. "And, I'd like to know, if I can kiss you?" She looked down at her hands. There I've said it.
She looked back up at Remus, blushing, to find him looking back at her startled.
"Oh damn, I've ruined it all haven't I? I really value our friendship, Remus. If I can't have anything more, I'll live with it. I'll just go." She stood up to leave. "We don't have to mention this again, if it will make you feel uncomfortable."
"Ginny," He stood up and moved in front of her. "Shh." He wiped a tear from her cheek. She hadn't even realised it was there. He leant in slowly, his hand still on her face, his eyes holding hers open so that she couldn't miss what he was doing, and brought his lips to hers. He gently swept his tongue across her lips and into her opening mouth. Her eyelids dropped shut and all she could feel was his tongue, and her tongue, and his hands, as they moved to bring her closer.
