The US didn't have a seat on the UN Human Rights Council? I mean, I guess it would've been a little hypocritical while we were torturing people, but... oy.

Yeah, I was very happy about this. It's amazing how much catching up we have to do just to be *on par* with the rest of the world. --;;;

It's getting better. :D

although, yes, i'm really loving it! The casual friendliness (and rudeness!) of people! Humor! Cultural activities! 30 languages at once!! People here are still too remote and rude for my NOLA sensibilities, but I can dig it! How funny/sad is it when waiters bat an eye less at my ordering in Chinese here than they do in Hong Kong? :P

too bad it's an American city and my city sense (combined with my reverse culture shock) is making me perhaps overly paranoid.
