I believe that, for example, the "48.56 (SD 7.23)" means that in the pre-test, the participants had an average physical health status score of 48.56, with a standard deviation of 7.23. The values at the four post-tests can be interpreted similarly. The "p=0.038" at the end, if I recall correctly, means that there is an 0.038 (i.e., 3.8%) chance that differences as large as those observed would have happened by chance even if the intervention _didn't_ make a significant difference. Because that probability is small, the authors apparently concluded that the intervention probably did make a significant difference.
