There's a common household appliance that really bothers me. I love having one, and I really appreciate all that it does for me. It keeps cold things cold and frozen things colder. ORIGIN 1920s: abbreviation, probably influenced by the proprietary name Frigidaire.

...although the word "Frigidaire" doesn't have a d in front of the g either, it does have a d in it.
