Seven years isn't really that long a time, when it comes right down to it. But she comes to this shrine--not the one where his headstone is placed, but a small one, out of the way and nearly overgrown by ivy--this time every year.
Fubuki doesn't really dress like a girl much, these days. She grew so tall so quickly, it's easier to find men's clothes, and they're more comfortable anyway. But today, she wears a skirt, and lets her hair out of the ponytail, and sits on the shrine steps.
It's a fine mist of a rain, like it always is, and she talks about the year, like she always does. The incense stick keeps a dull orange glow to the air around here, and Fubuki trails off, watching the patterns.
"...Your first girlfriend got married, you know. She wanted you to be there. Not even out of spite. You should have been..."
The wind picked up for a moment, and he was sorry, even if he couldn't really remember her name.
Ai had to blink for a bit. She'd known Taiga and Tobias since they were all children--the twins were a little bit older than her, but not much--but this was something she'd never seen before. In a way, it made sense. Taiga had never really behaved outwardly like anything but an idle flirt (and even though it had been years, she was still sorry her mom had broken his nose).
So, Ai noted, to see Taiga so honestly furious was a bit refreshing. And he was, standing over the girls who'd taken exception to Ai's hair color with his knuckles bruised. She didn't have the heart to tell Taiga she hadn't really needed his help.
"Ai! Ai, are you alright?"
"...They were only going to cut my hair." Taiga huffed a little.
"You're as bad as Toby--even that's bad! Your hair's pretty, they shouldn't cut it!"
It was also the first time she'd heard Taiga compliment her looks that wasn't his joking flirting. He hadn't even thought about it. She smiled a little, and shook her head.
He really was a little slow, but it was cute that way.
The nice thing about Takagawa Miyoko is that for all he's the most intelligent person Haruhi has ever met, he is remarkably clueless about some of the simplest things. He's not aware, for instance, that the woman currently leaning over his desk, her neckline so deep it's nearly breaking public indecency laws, is trying to tempt him with sexual favors. He's also unaware Haruhi has a microphone hidden in his desk, and is listening to the entire affair from his office.
"Are you sure there's nothing I can offer you? I'm certain I can make it worth your while..."
"What part of 'his schedule is full' is difficult to comprehend!? And--just what the hell are you doing!"That was all he needed to hear. He was out of his office and down the hall before either of the two had realized what was going on. The woman--a politician's wife, if he recalled correctly (And Mibu Haruhi was never wrong about that), who currently was attempting to unbutton his erstwhile secretary's shirt
