So, a few years back, I picked up the Metroidvania game Shadow Complex

That's a really weird feature to include. Even so it's still a great game and I liked it a lot.

You might also try Outland for a neat Metroidvania + Ikagura game. (Metroidvaniagura?)

Achievements are a "feature" best ignored for the most part anyway :)
