Good people.

How many among you possess knowledge of vampires?

[He repeats the question in several different languages. Swedish, French, Dutch, Cantonese, Japanese and Arabic, to name a few. If your character's from a fairly typical Earth some time in the last two thousand years and doesn't speak English as their first language, feel free to ( Read more... )

Have you forgotten yourself, then?

[Have an ironic smile, Alice.]

Hardly that, Miss Alice.

Then, on general principle, I must ask why you've asked this question? Surely you yourself know better than any of us.

[She still thinks of you as 'Verney the Vampire'.]

There are people here from many worlds, alternates of Earth or otherwise. The variants to what I know as truth are... interesting.

[He probably read them as they came out, you know.]

Oh, you're quiet the clever one! What an interesting idea indeed! This world and that world might have so many similarities yet so many differences it can all get a bit confusing, don't you think?

Take this one - it's an interesting little rabbit hole, full of wondrous charm and magic, but I daresay it's quite different from my own! Then, take Underland, it too has the same charms as this boat but it is vastly different.

How similar is mine and yours, I wonder?

[Because obviously, they all tumbled down the same rabbit hole, just different openings of it! This all makes sense, and is wonderfully curious and odd, just like Alice.]

You speak of many things I've no knowledge of. This Underland, for one.

[Though there are creatures enough that can move between planes of existence. Hm.]

What year is it, for you?

Oh, Underland is a lovely place - talking flowers and caterpillars and the Bandersnatch (do you have those, I wonder?) and all sorts of this and that. It’s a wonderful place to have tea.

The year is currently 1865, and the coffee percolator was just invented over in the Americas. Isn’t that something?

No, no Bandersnatches. And I have not had tea in many years.

[Nor, honestly, what any modern human would call 'tea'.]

Humans are quite innovative, when the mood strikes them.

That's too bad. They're quite tame, if you know what to do. [A beat.] Are you able to drink it?

[Alice chuckles - innovative. What a good word.]

I like to think so, though I've no doubt you're quite resourceful, yourself.

It's best not to. Our bodies have been altered beyond the need for normal sustenance.

[He raises an eyebrow.]

From one who speaks of Vorpal Swords and Jabberwocky, that is high praise indeed.

That's really too bad, there's nothing quite like a good cup of tea.

And the Bandersnatch.

I will have to take your word for it.

That as well. How could I forget?

You're a curious one, Miss Alice.

[He says with some affection. Like... someone talking to a stray cat.]
