If you are reading this, then you are gone from your home and all that you know. This place - a ship known as the M.S. Elegante - seems to exist as an intra-dimensional anomaly, wholly separate from anything anyone aboard is familiar with. The man that brought you here, the captain, is named Redd. What respect you decide to show him, I leave to your discretion.

This destination of this ship is so far unconfirmed, though popular opinion is that we are heading for a 'Golden Shore'. There is no one on the ship, passenger-wise, that has been here for longer than two years. The crew is currently an unknown factor.

Once here, you cannot permanently die. After a fairly uniform period of twenty-four hours, people are re-animated, sans several physical belongings were on their person at the time. After your third death, your eyes go black. It's unclear as to the purpose this serves, if any. It should be noted that this does not result in blindness so much as a mild sensitivity to light, and an improved ability to see in the dark. (Addendum: System failures that result in permanent death have been recorded)

Instigating a fight will see you punished by the Captain. His punishments tend to be in line more with humiliation and degradation than actual harm, though the latter is possible if certain circumstances are met. For your first fight, you receive only a warning. Each conflict thereafter will result in a punishment.

Killing passengers will see that you are put in the brig for a total of three days, and fettered with some further form of chastisement.

This ship cannot be escaped.

With the exception of the store Nirvana, everything is free. The shops on deck twelve are no exception, nor are any of the available restaurants.

...One can leave as abruptly as they find themselves here.

Should anyone have an addendum to make, do so here. I intend for this to be available for all. Those who have questions will find them fielded here also.

[He repeats the spiel in several different languages. Swedish, French, Dutch, Cantonese, Japanese and Arabic, to name a few. If your character's from a fairly typical Earth some time in the last two thousand years and doesn't speak English as their first language, feel free to assume said language was lumped in accordingly.
