We were actually regaling the Bear with stories of Seanna, Jonathan, and Peter Cretis (Alphabet SOUP!!!) tonight as we went into Half Price Books today.
A lot of good people left the Cam over the years, especially after the whole ugliness with the White Wolf takeover. Also, the old setting was much more conducive to creating good stories and RP, while the new setting seems not to have enough conflict to create good character-driven plot much of the time.
In striving for equity amongst players a critical measure of power was removed as well. Thus when starting out characters were pretty much the same level of power no matter the "power level" the system loses the struggle between the "young" and the "old". Of course, that was inevitable when you allowed PCs to be elders...and frankly the MC system, while well intentioned was no use at determining if a person was a responsible player and could portray an elder. AS more layers of bureaucracy was layered on to ensure "fairness" the entire process started to resemble the Gov't procurement process (needlessly complicated and therefore corrupt).
Ah, the good ole days when roleplaying was young and innocent, and I was--well not young and innocent. Now my roleplaying is strictly in D&D 4E. I think my favorite times were probably playing Moonsinger although I did enjoy Katherine a close second.
