Yea, for I am bored and lack anything better to do than address the two big Star Wars debates that've been springing up in a few LJs.
The Leia/Mother Paradox
"Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?"
"A little bit, yes. Just images... feelings, really."
Yeah, that damned line in RotJ. Another reason to notch it lower on my chart (Other than the stilted dialogue starting to wear through and the magic dimming o.0), I've really sort of considered this thing because I've had like, two dozen people bring it up to me.
My opinion: Psych majors (Ceej, Don, Jodi), help me out here, but I wouldn't think it beyond the Organas to sort of imprint these images and ideas on a very young Leia, especially considering how vague her description is. Talking about her mother when she was young, showing her pictures, holovids (Or whatever the hell they use as video), I honestly don't think it would be too hard to make her think that she remembered her mother from when she was 2 or 3 (Kinda like people absolutely KNOW they remember stuff as a baby, but most likely it's just a false memory created from hearing the story many times over). This is plausible for two reasons:
1) It's much easier to explain her death away. It's hard to explain to a child that her mother died in childbirth. They likely invented another story to shield her from that brutal fact.
2) The less she knows, the safer she is. If Padme died two years before her mother died, who would suspect that she's one of the Vader twins? The identity of her real mother was probably hidden (Hell, there's even the possbility of a 'false' real mother so that she wouldn't even know the name Padm) so that she wouldn't inadvertantly blurt it out in the wrong company.
All in all, I think it's extremely possible that she just thinks she remembers her mother from what the Organas told her, but it's just her memory playing tricks (And possibly her adoptive parents as well.
And, of course, this is just the ramblings of a geek trying to cover up a fairly dumb continuity error (How the hell do you hide Darth Vader's wife from him for ANY given amount of time?).
Who ordered the Clone Army?
I actually have a real answer for this, thanks to my weird quirk for watching movies with the subtitles on. It's Darth Sidious.
"And now to business. You will be delighted to hear we are on schedule. Two hundred thousand units are ready, with another million well on the way."
"That is... good news."
"Please tell your Master Sido-Dyas that we have every confidence his order will be met on time and in full. He is well, I hope?"
"I'm sorry, Master-?"
"Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas. He's still a leading member of the Jedi Council, is he not?"
"Oh, yes. Sido-Dyas."
***
"...I've never heard of a Jedi called Sido-Dyas, have you, Master?"
"No. Whoever placed that order was not a Jedi, I can assure you."
Sido-Dyas? Sidious? Either it's a mispronounciation or an alias, but it points directly to Palpatine. It wouldn't be hard for a Sith Lord of Palpatine's skill to convince them he was a Jedi (And a high-ranking one at that), nor would it be beyond him to somehow reroute funds through his Senate office. He was well-known for helping people out, and it would only take a few favors to get a nice amount of money rerouted without anyone really knowing, especially due to the buracracy of the Senate.
Another finger pointing in is the subliminal command "Order 66", which Palpatine knows about which is something that, if it were common knowledge, the Jedi probably would have noticed on the bill payment.
And because I'm feeling ESPECIALLY dorky, I'll put 5 Star Wars questions at the end that will baffle even those who think they know everything about the Star Wars universe.
1) The damned 6-winged ship in Episode III wasn't the precursor to the X-Wing. What is the precursor to the X-Wing?
2) How did Chewie and Han actually meet?
3) Name 4 drop outs of the Imperial Academy who dropped out and have done work for the Rebels before?
4) What is the Arc Hammer?
5) The original movies have three different Rebel Generals in charge of the forces (Note: Generals, not Admirals), one for each movie. Name 'em.
First person to get all of them gets a cookie.
