Random thoughts - again, sorta geeky, but readable

I was doing some thinking about technology, and how it has a habit of saturating its limits until high-tech becomes low-tech (thanks a lot, Moore's Law). For example, in a couple years we're going to be using HD-DVD or Blu-Ray (whichever wins) and musing about how positively atrocious DVDs were at holding all our high def content. All of the bits and EM radiation in the air gives us all cancer and the entire world is reduced to cinder by an incoming meteor.

After the major puritan resistance I expect to see a narrower gap between the man/machine interface. I hope to one day have a quiet conversation with a person in a loud room.

commercially with fibre you get 14MB/s - and that's dedicated.
corporately you can get GB fibre connections.

What I'm really looking forward to is region-wide WiFi run by the major high speed companies, with the option of using other regions' services while on vacation. Get your monthly subscription. Run your home computers and laptops from it. Have a system in your car for navigation, general web surfing, listening to internet radio, and for on the fly multimedia download with the possibility of engaging in a fast FTP or direct connection to your home computers to get access to more files as you need them. Cell phones, palms, mp3 players, PSPs and other small personal electronics will also be able to use your WiFi connection for these purposes ( ... )
