Journals: Dr. Dobbs and login; will both have at least some info on some comparisons. PHP will most likely only get scant mention, but the rest'll have solid cites. Books: I believe O'Reilly has at least on generic dynamic web programming type book which'll give you some pro/con php/perl/java comparisons, though it likely won't touch on C++. You might also poke around the Sun Java docs site to see if they have some published papers talked about portability/compatability/efficiency of Java/JRE/JVM/J2EE type stuff. Sadly, the most informative, and yet uncitable, source of good comparisons (and lots of inaccurate info as well) between these languages is going to be Slashdot. Sure lots of it is crap, but lots of it isn't as well. You might find some solid links though if you can find some good Ask /. stories, certain prolific posters there have a knack for finding well documented graduate research papers on the web.
