Hmm, that sounds like a challenge...

Marcus was trained and brainwashed since he was a child to serve the powerful Empire as a ruthless killer. He's the perfect soldier and never questions his orders. after the coup and the change of regime Marcus and other soldiers from his elite group are sent to fight an die on the Arena.

It can be a space AU, or a fantasy one, it's probably doable in some historical ones too ;)

Of course! They are paired for living and training together and Esca manages to crack through the conditioning to Marcus's real fiercely loving self :D
