To be honest, the whole thing with the Marauders doing tons of drugs (besides alcohol, or cigarettes or some such) doesn't really sit well with me. It just doesn't really make all that much sense anyway. I always picture them as being crazy enough not to really need it, but people tend to like to make Sirius and James "cool" and make them drug addicts.
Agreed, I've enver been found of it either. I can see them maybe trying something once (though really, if it's Sirius and James, I'd rather see a wizarding equivalent of some drug, not the normal muggle stuff) but I just don't see 'em really using anythign that causes you to want to do nothing all day but sit around and giggle.
Alcohol and cigarettes to me are just . . normal, Like you say, the funny, the only two I see smoking are Remus and Peter but, it could be all of them. Smoking was normal and . . possibly the dangerous side effects can be handled by magic so there'd be no reaosn not to ^__^
But yeah, seeing peter ad being uncool because he won't do drugs was just a WTF moment for me
Snape was probably the one to abuse drugs. Tons of potions ingredients + lab = illicit, high-inducing potions. :)
In their humorous "Slytherin Study Group" fanfic series, Rabbit-and-Jinx often write Snape as being twitchy and strung-out on his own experimental potions. There's a link to one of their stories in my LJ if you're curious.
