For the last year Foriegn Bride has been collecting unemployement checks. Now, she's legally entitled to this money, she did work and the company she worked for did pay Kansas her unemployement insurance

Well I agree with you.

The only way I would be taking it is if I absolutely could not live without it, or that I had dependents who needed it for a quality life. My pride wouldn't let me otherwise, I might take unemployment for a while but I would also try to get re-employed as quickly as possible.

I'm Chinese as much as I'm American and I have 'face' issues.

Well, Foriegn Bride got over it faster then I expected, so I didn't end up sleeping on the couch. She came from very real, "there is no food to eat, we are going hungry tonight" poverty, so she has no relunctance at all about grabbing all the free stuff she can.

Pretty much a consequence of being raised in a failed socialist country.

Yes, virtually all of our Vietamese students come from not-rich origins and have no problem breaking laws or moral qualms about taking things that are offered free of charge. It's something I have a hard time remembering when being called down to the police station.

I have higher standards for Thuy though. ^_^ Although what that implies, I dunno.

You shouldn't. She took it to me again last night. She waited until we had gone to bed, then hammered me hard with tears and so forth. It took her about an hour and a half or so, but she finally broke me down.

I'll be applying for her benefits again tonight.

Either I'm a sucker, or this money is important to her at a level I don't begin to understand.
