It's amazing how grief sneaks up on you at the strangest times. I was turning off the lights in the living room to get ready for bed, and a picture of my Mom and I on the mantle, taken exactly two weeks before she died, caught my eye.
I started crying and couldn't stop.

I was telling someone last night that for the second year in a row, I seem to miss her more around my birthday, because she always made a big deal of it (cooked me my favorite dinner, got me two different birthday cards -- one sappy, one funny -- and stuff like that.
And this also starts the cycle of major stuff without her (her birthday in Nov., Thanksgiving, Christmas...).
