Psychosomatic ailments are when a person believes they are ill, and indeed believes it so firmly they trick their body into recreating the symptoms of what they believe themselves to have.

Indeed they can. A person can even believe themselves into death.

It is nothing, Mrs. Lovett. I was glad to be of assistance. The healing potions I gave you should help with much, and above all make sure he gets food to eat and something to occupy his mind.

Isn't that when you think you're sick enough that your body physically makes you sick?

To get out of doing something, maybe? Not sure... I mean, sometimes when I really didn't want to go to school, I could pretend I was sick enough that my forehead at least got a little warm and my mom caved in and let me stay home.

Ha, where I was, you was into school if you had anythin' from fever to consumption. And you'd get a smack if you complained. Or coughed.

Guess I'm just surprised, to be honest - too much illness floatin' about where I'm from to really bother with pretendin' it, you know?
