reading this reminded me of the way i think about the race issue. i don't really know what to say about it, but that's the way i feel too...

have you ever read noughts and crosses by malorie blackman? it's not a particularly challenging read, but it's good. it's a universe where the white are the suppressed. i liked it. again, it's not challenging. but it's a nice concept.

i don't know how i feel about racism. yes, i hate it, especially the generalisations, but at the same time, there are certain characteristics i absolutely hate of humans in general and these happen to present themselves in a race and when that happens, it's really hard to not say "i hate all of the "

i havent read it but it sounds amazing!!

yeah. i think there is a different though. like i dont think its racist if you go "i hate the way asians screech on the bus" if like you just as commonly say "i hate the way fourteen year old teenage girls screech on the bus." i mean i guess when you're insulting a race it can be considered racism, but not when you show that same predjudice to another certain demographic. does that make sense?
i never say these things out loud, but i do think them though, which is still racist i guess. im often racist against chinese or japanese people, but yet im always the first to deny a generalisation made about aboriginal or african people. lol. im just selectively racist. thats pretty dumb

it's not dumb to be selectively racist. i think a lot of people are. i'm... i don't know. i think i'm in the same boat as you. and i sometimes feel like a hypocrite when i tell people to stop being racist even though i am myself. there's a facebook group that is something along the lines of "if you come to australia, learn how to speak english" and that has actually defined my life for the past four weeks. i don't particularly love uni simply because EVERYONE in my course, absolutely EVERYONE, has black hair. it's ridiculous. none of them even make the effort to talk to us. they find people from their own country and talk to each other in their native languages which really pisses me off. like, i know that having a degree from melbourne uni will get you far, but COME ON. you're in australia. learn english, please ( ... )
