At an indeterminate point prior to nightfall, if darkness and light mean anything on a ship slowly falling into the grips of a black hole, Rose had entered her room, found her things, and claimed a bunk.
That is, the letters R.L., in curling script, were scorched into the cover of the upper bunk. The perpetrator of this violence against innocent bulkheads would not put in another appearance for several hours.
When she did, she popped open her bunk, and laid down on her stomach, her laptop open in front of her.
During those several hours Rose was gone, Vash had arrived and entered the room to take a look around. It seemed pretty nice but...
Oh, were those bunkbeds? He'd have to...share a room with someone. It was slightly unnerving and seeing the R.L scorched into the upper bunks covers didn't help to ease those nerves.
"Haha...ha..." Laughing nervously and sighing, he decided it'd be best to go back out and collect his things, and maybe find out where everything was on this ship before returning.
When he did return he was carrying a large cross like thing behind him. He noticed Rose and his expression immediately turned into the biggest smile he could muster in politeness.
"Oh hey there! How are you? Guess we're roomies huh?" He blinks a few times then marches to the bed, placing the cross against the wall.
That Rose had a roommate had been obvious from the placard by the door. That she had a boy roommate had not, and she stared. Only after the boy thing did she notice that he was carrying what appeared to be a crucifix. As in the Jesus kind. Possibly mummified.
Weapon? Good luck charm? Bizarre metaphorical encumbrance?
She closed the top of her computer and looked at him. "Yes. I take it you're Vash?" If he didn't know her name from the sign, he'd have to ask. Boys.

"Looks like I'm sleeping on the bottom then!"
