So with the PS3 and the Wii, you can stream Netflix. With the XBox 360, you can stream Netflix if you pay for a Microsoft XBox Live Gold subscription. It's only $40 a year or some such like that, but it's still incredibly lame.

It is a wonder that Microsoft manages to sell any of the bloody things. They seem like a pretty raw deal for the consumer.

Generally yeah, but they get the game titles which get the people buying them. Then they break shortly after the warranty is up so you gotta buy a new one. (Or fix it yourself. 9 times out of 10 it's the DVD drive that goes. $40 fix.)

I think...and you can correct me if I'm wrong. But the content is hosted by MS instead of Netflix. From a reliability standpoint I have found that the stream seems to be better then on, as an example, my Wii. That and they have had exclusive rights to this for a while now as well. That said. Over the last 8 months while I prefer the content on the 360 over the Wii due to HD support if I can't find a deal for say 1 month for $1 or the better 3 months for $10 I just let the XBL Gold account expire and go back to my Wii.
However in the next month or so I'm getting a new TV. One of the requirements is Netflix and pref other vid services are supported on device.

I may have to see the XBox streaming Netflix then. My Wii, plugged in to analog ports of my TV, completely owns streaming Netflix on the PCs in my house. So far not a single hiccup, and the encoding quality sent to the Wii seems to be worlds better than to the PC. On the PC I'm always noticing splotchy colors, especially with varying shades of black. On the Wii, I have noticed issues with displaying many, closely patterned vertical or horizontal lines.

Yep. Sad to say this is the ONLY thing I've been using my Wii for; the free netflix streaming that is. And the remote is well... a remote.

YOu can get a used Wii at a pawnstore or gamestop for $100 these days. Thats like 2 years worth of Xbox live. I suppose if you use the Xbox live service for the other offerings like online gaming the Netflix is a throw in... but otherwise... yeah.

That being said, Wii doesn't do HD. For me its a null issue, I still have a 36" CRT SDTV monster in the basement.
