My Hardware Curse Continues

I've been meaning to upgrade this Linux desktop machine for a long time. I bought a Socket A motherboard about five or six years back and a low-end Duron in the hope that I would get around to fitting something flashier to it later. Seems I'm not running the latest version of the BIOS for my MoBo and apparently a subsequent BIOS update added Sempron support.

Problem is that I've only flashed a motherboard BIOS twice in my life and in both occasions ended up with a dead motherboard.

I need reassurance or something before I proceed... how likely is it that it's going to go FUBAR?

Now it seems I can't flash the BIOS anyway as it can only be done from a floppy and after trying two separate floppy drives and three cables I've come to the conclusion that the floppy drive handler on the MoBo must be broken.

Does it never end..?
