CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Dino Cavallone, Katekyo Hitman REBORN!
In-Game Name: Dino Cavallone.
Age: 22.
Gender: Male.
Position & Ship: Passenger, The Fiertia.
Appearance:
To most people, Dino is probably as handsome as any other guy out there. His type of attractiveness is something that would probably only appeal to a certain group of people, as it's a bit more standard and mainstream than most would even care for. He's not especially tall, doesn't really tower over much of anyone, and he's not really all that bulky, either. He's slender, to an extent, but muscled well enough that he'd be able to pack a punch that would knock most people right on their asses. His clothing, which is almost always loose-fitting and baggier than it needs to be, hides how small he actually is, but don't be fooled. He's way stronger than he looks.
Perhaps the most distinguishable feature about him would be the tattoos that are littered all across his left arm. They start at his hand and stretch up in various places all over his arm, ending at a spot high on his neck. All of them have a special sort of meaning to him, one that most people wouldn't understand, but the tattoo that would probably give him away the quickest as a Cavallone would be the one of his family's crest that can be found on his upper arm with the letter "C" inked into the middle of it. He's blonde, with a set of brown eyes, and he's not exactly pale, but he's not really all that dark-skinned, either.
He's the kind of guy who can blend in with the people around him, who can make himself look invisible, who can easily appear as any other guy in the world. He's attractive, yeah, but he's attractive in a classic, average sort of way that makes him look like just an ordinary person, like someone you'd maybe like to be friends with if only you had the time to stop and actually give a shit about things like that.
Personality:
Dino is, at his very core, a genuinely good and honest guy.
He's not the type who'll roll his eyes at you the second your back is facing him and then turn around and smile all wide and nice the minute you're looking back at him. He's not two-faced, doesn't like to go around pretending to be something that he's not, and he's not going to go and push your Great Grandma Winifred into a street full of oncoming traffic. He won't steal your teddy bear, won't show up at the 3 in the morning knocking on your door for money, won't beat up little kids for candy on Halloween night, and he's definitely not going to go and egg your vehicle because he secretly thinks you're a prick.
That's not who he is, isn't apart of what he's ever been, and really, Dino's more likely to be the one smacking the person who is doing any of that shit upside the head for being an ungrateful little asshole. Dino's the kind of guy that you want to have around should you ever find yourself in a sticky situation. He's not fake, and he's not going to sit around and pull the covers over your eyes while he murmurs candy-coated bullshit in your ear. He tells the truth, whether a person wants to hear it or not, and he doesn't waste one minute of his time or any of the oxygen in his lungs apologizing for it.
He's the type of awkward gentleman who will hold a door open for you, and then go ahead and walk right into it the very second he moves to follow you. He laughs a lot of shit off, doesn't let things get to him, and he almost always has a smile ready on his face, no matter the time of day. He enjoys the company of people, doesn't like to be alone when he can be surrounded by friends, and he puts everything he has into caring for the people who actually matter to him. There is nothing he cares for more than his family and his friends, and he is as loyal and as dedicated to these people as he is sheepish and inelegant.
The thing is, though, Dino's a good guy who happens to also be the leader of one of the largest and most influential families that you'll find within the next 100 miles of the city of Berum.
-- But don't let that scare you away.
He's a little bit rough around the edges without really appearing to be that way. He's unpolished, imperfect, and he realizes and accepts it. Kind of. He does have a bad habit of making up excuses for his klutziness and his clumsiness, and he would rather pull all his teeth out than verbally admit that he's just a bit helpless without his family there at his side.
Dino is also very young to be leading such a large group of people. He hasn't been the leader of the Cavallone family for a super long time, and because of this, he's a bit inexperienced. This isn't to say that he's completely naive to the inner workings of what his family does, however; he's just not as sobered as some of the older leaders within his various alliances tend to be. He hasn't seen enough bloodshed yet, hasn't been put through enough hell, and he hasn't really gotten the chance to see the world and the majority of its people for what they really are. There are just some things that he doesn't quite get, not yet, because it's too early, but he'll learn. Eventually. Because all they do, because it's part of the job.
Beyond that, he's also a teensy bit overconfident. Because of his stubborn inability to admit that he can't do much without the presence of his family, he puts far too much faith in himself and in his abilities. He tends to rush into situations without thinking about shit first, is a little too passionate when it comes to certain things, and it often ends just a little bit badly for him and for the people that have been dragged into it with him.
Dino doesn't like to think in negatives, doesn't like to look on the downside of things, and he won't listen to a goddamn word that you say if all you can tell him is that he can't or that it's impossible. Dino doesn't believe in that shit, so you can kick your negativity right out the door, because he's not listening. He doesn't have time to waste laying around thinking about all the things he cannot do. There aren't enough hours in the day for that kind of thing, and you can try to rain on his parade all you want; it still won't make a difference.
He'll do what he wants to do, will do whatever he thinks is the right thing to do be doing, and if you aren't going to follow him or support him, then move the hell out of his way, because he's not stopping.
Abilities/Weapons:
As the leader of the Cavallone family, Dino is extremely equipped in handling himself in tight situations. He fights primarily with a whip that he keeps on him at all times, and though it may not seem like that great of a weapon, he's brought down enough men with it to prove that, yeah, it actually is a decent enough weapon when one knows how to handle it. It's assumed, however, that he knows how to defend himself without the whip, and that (considering his position within the family) he is very familiar with firearms and with how to use them. Whatever way you want to look at it, though, Dino is damn good at fighting without really damaging anyone. He's not big on killing people, isn't really the type who sees the point in wasting another person's life, but that's not to say that you don't stand at a risk of being eliminated if he believes that you're a threat to the people he cares about.
Because that's all it really comes down to, in the end. The people he loves, the people who mean the most to him, they're the ones that Dino would do anything to defend and protect, and you'd be treading on thin ice if you even thought of laying a finger on any one of them. The only people who mean anything to Dino are the ones that he keeps close to his heart, and at the end of the day, he will always choose his family over a random stranger. It's not even really a choice with him. Not exactly. They're the reason why he does the things that he does, the only reason why he is motivated to do anything at all, and they define him in such a way where messing around with them even just mildly probably isn't a good idea unless you plan on coming face to face with the wrath of a quietly seething blonde.
Beyond the violence, though, Dino is also very good with his words. He knows how to talk to people, knows how to get people to listen to him, and this might have something to do with the fact that, well, he's just a genuine guy. He means everything that he says, doesn't really like to skirt around the truth or hide things from people; he's honest, and that honesty is apparent to anyone that happens to talk to him. He's good at making negotiations, good at ending tense situations in a peaceful and non-violent way, and he talks to everyone around him with such a casual, calm air that people can't help but be reassured that, yeah, maybe everything will be all right, maybe everything will be fine.
Sounds like a pretty good deal, right?
But, well, see, these talents come with a bit of a catch.
Dino can't really use these amazing abilities of his without the immediate presence of one of his family members. Dino is very dedicated to the Cavallone family, and from that dedication, his passion for defending and protecting them shines through past his klutziness and awkwardness. Without his family, he isn't much of anything, and he can't really do anything, either. He falls over himself, trips over his own feet, and he often ends up hitting himself and the people he's attempting to defend in the face with his own whip. He's pretty much rendered useless, in other words, and he usually ends up doing more harm than he does good.
But this isn't to say that he's like this all of the time. If the situation is dire enough, or if he's pushed to a point where protecting the life of another person means more than his family right at that moment, his abilities would probably peek out in bits and short flashes. It would most likely only be for that specific moment, though, and the second that he was finished defending himself or whoever else he needed to defend, he'd probably go right back to tripping over everything and falling down flights of stairs.
Keep in mind, though, Dino was trained rigorously for many years, and every ability he would ever need to keep himself safe and out of harm's way, he has stored away in the back of his brain. He's probably not a person you'd want to mess with, unless you're absolutely sure that you can take him and that he won't snap out of his awkward, clumsy state to turn around and kick your ass.
It's a gamble, either way.
How well can your character hack?:
Not well. Dino wouldn't have any real interest in hacking into another person's private thoughts; that's not really the way he chooses to go about things.
Besides, he has other ways of getting the information he wants out of people.
Weaknesses:
Aside from the fact that Dino can't do much of anything without the immediate physical presence of at least one of his family members, he's also rather inept when it comes to a few other things. While it's true that Dino's not much of a liar and that he doesn't go out of his way to spin tall tales that he knows he won't be able to keep, this doesn't necessarily mean that he never lies. If he feels that it's beneficial for someone to not know the truth, he'll cover it up in order to protect them, though that sometimes ends up being a bad idea in the long run. He's overprotective to an extent, and while he almost always means well, it has a tendency of backfiring on him in ways that he wouldn't normally expect.
His naivete serves as another problem. He trusts too easily, maybe, believes that everyone in his family is as loyal to him as he is to them, and he has trouble realizing that there just might be a few people out there who don't have his best interests in mind. It's not hard to win him over, to get him on your side, and once he is, he doesn't really like to spend too much time analyzing the faults of the people that he's befriended. Dino's not completely naive, however, and he knows when someone is bullshitting him, but he still tends to turn the other cheek when it comes to his family and friends.
Dino can also be excessively selfish and overconfident. When he wants something, he'll go after it until he gets it, and a lot of the times, he ends up knocking down whatever's in his way just to reach that particular goal. Beneath the smiles and the friendly aura, he can be just as ruthless as any other cutthroat out there, and while his conscience keeps him on a typically moral line, he's no stranger to violence or death.
Finally, he has a hard time keeping his emotions in check when it comes to the people he cares about. He'll react as violently as he needs to if he feels that he's been wronged or if he feels that the Cavallones as a whole have been wronged. He doesn't like to see the people he cares about getting hurt, and he's not beyond exploding at everything around him should something troubling happen to one of his family members or close friends.
History:
Dino was born the son of a wealthy, powerful family in the city of Berum some twenty-two years ago. The Cavallones, for a long time, were seen as a bit of a controversial family, as they were notorious for the theft of precious items and goods and the resale of said items. What's even stranger, though, is that the Cavallones were not really seen as a family to the outside world more as they were seen an organized group of people that happened to commit usually non-violent crimes. The Cavallones saw it differently, however. They accepted anyone into their "family" as long as they had something to offer, and because of this, by the time that Dino reached the age of 13, there were hundreds of people he'd never even met or seen already listed as being part of the Cavallone family.
The Cavallones were loved by the poorer population of the city, as most of the money that they earned from reselling the items they stole was distributed among the poor and the needy. By others, they were seen as being no better than pirates and were wanted dead by the majority of the richer families within Berum and its surrounding cities. Either way, it was hard to go anywhere in Vohemar without hearing someone give their opinion on the Cavallone family, and it was even harder to walk five minutes in any direction in Berum without someone spitting on the name of Cavallone and its supposedly noble cause.
And this is the life, the responsibility, that was thrust upon Dino the very second he was born.
He was the only child of his mother and father, and because of this, he was also next in line to lead the Cavallone family. For most of his early life, even stretching on into young adulthood, he was trained in preparation for this huge responsibility that would later be dropped on his shoulders. And, at first, Dino was resistant to comply at all. He had no real interest in what his family was doing, didn't want to be apart of the various crimes that they were committing, and he certainly didn't want to put his own life at risk just for bearing the Cavallone name. It wasn't worth it, to him, and he wasn't all that willing to just let himself be sucked into the type of violent and cold world that his parents knew so well.
It wasn't until he reached his late teens that he finally began to start accepting the role he would later play in his family's life. This role came a bit sooner than expected, though, when his father was stabbed in an alleyway in an empty street of Berum five days before Dino turned 19. His mother had died years earlier of a fatal illness, and the immediate control of all of his family's followers and the power that came with it was shoved right into his inexperienced hands.
Luckily for him, however, Dino had the help of many people already in the family, and he managed to fill the shoes of his father quite well. He did what was expected of him, protected the family in every way that he knew how, ordered for their threats to be eliminated, and made sure that the money they earned was distributed as fairly as possible. He was an ideal leader, despite his clumsy awkwardness, and he was loved by most of the Cavallones. There were a few people, of course, that didn't always agree with him, and there were also a few within the family's walls that even wanted him dead.
Because, despite how friendly and warm he may have been at any other time, Dino was a businessman before all else.
And businessmen in this world have always been just a little bit cold, just a little bit desensitized, and not exactly all that trustworthy.
Eventually, a few months before Dino turned 21, he boarded the Fiertia as a passenger in order to expand his alliances and create new bonds with other organized groups throughout the entire continent. No one in the Cavallone family really knows for sure how long he intends to stay on the Fiertia and away from Cavallone headquarters in Berum, but most assume that he'll be gone for quite awhile. He also seems to be attempting to accomplish something else, trying to reach some sort of goal that only he knows about. But this is something that he appears to be very secretive and protective about, and it's generally not a good idea to even mention it with him around.
These days, he can usually be found lounging around on deck with a man in dark clothes and a somber expression following his every move and shadowing his every action. If you can't find him anywhere else, then he's probably shut away in his room, and... well, it's not really a good idea to bother him then.
Because every man has their secrets, right, and Dino's no exception.
SAMPLES-
Third Person (roleplay):
Dino wasn't really sure where all the quiet indifference towards everything began.
It might have started when he was younger, before he had even realized what it meant to be a Cavallone and how it would really impact him on a daily basis. That made the most sense, honestly, because how could he have known when it came down to it, and now it was too late to go back, to change anything, because this was who he was now. This was his responsibility, right, and Dino had never been all that keen on the idea of passing off his work onto the shoulders of other people.
Either way, it hardly mattered anymore, and it was silly to waste time thinking about things like that, right? So he didn't bother. Not really. He didn't bother unless he absolutely had to, and now wasn't one of those times where he was going to sit around and mull over all the things that he couldn't take back or change. The past was the past, time moved on, and the dead stayed dead. That was how things worked. That was how the world had always worked.
Narrow shoulders dropped in a heavy sigh as he leaned back against the railing directly behind him, brown eyes lazily scanning over the nearly-empty deck of the Fiertia. It was later at night, and the sun had set hours ago; most of the crew on the ship were already in bed, and the passengers... well, Dino didn't really like to get into their business any more than they liked to get into his.
It was better that way, really.
Better, and easier, and everyone stayed on their side of the line, where they belonged, where no one would question them or ask where they came from or waste time wondering whether or not anyone could be trusted. Dino had learned a long time ago that people were easier to trust when they were kept at an arm's length, and maybe it was a little funny, just a little bit pathetic, that he never really seemed to care enough to push people as far away as he maybe should have.
Dino laughed (and it echoed just a little, bouncing off the various objects spread out around him), and his fingers curled absently around the whip resting at his side.
Yeah.
It was always better that way.
Dino just didn't care.
