Age/Appearance: Jimmy is 36, looks pretty average as far as looks and height go. Six feet tall, slim build; he's pretty much an everyman. Sure, his eyes are quite the shade of blue, but other than that, he looks downright boring in his trench coat, dress shirt and suit. He carries himself very much like a father, but where once he walked proudly in the service of the Lord, he now seems mostly cynical and resigned. You can tell just by looking at him; this guy’s lost it all.
History: Jimmy Novak grew up in a Christian environment, and was, by all means, a normal guy. He went to a private Christian high school and graduated from a Religious-affiliated college. Religion has always been a constant companion in his life; read the Bible, go to Church, pray every night... to him, it was all normal. Heck, even Jimmy’s dreams, the standard ‘blue house and white picket-fence’ could have been called boring.
Like any good Christian, he married Christian and raised his daughter into the faith. He lived a good life; had a loving wife and daughter and a comfortable job selling ad-time for AM radio. He had it good and he knew it; Jimmy was grateful to God for all that he’d given him. But while he had no trouble thanking Him, there was always a part of him that wanted more. “The Bible teaches us that faith must be accompanied by doubt, for blind faith is the faith of the ignorant, yet those who are capable of doubt and still believe are truly of the Kingdom of God.” Jimmy was like this at one point. He prayed daily, said Grace before dinner and watched televangelists in his free time.
That is, until an angel started talking to him.
The angel's name was Castiel. He said Jimmy was needed. He said his family would be at risk if he didn't help him. It was a call from God, an answer to Jimmy's prayers and undeniable proof of Jimmy's faith. More than that, God had chosen him to do something special, something only he could do. Unfortunately, this meant that those around him did not understand. Despite miracles and signs, Jimmy's wife thought he was hearing voices and spouting fanatic nonsense. She was scared of him and scared for him, and she would not have him talk like that in front of their daughter. Jimmy had to choose; it was either his faith or his family.
Jimmy, vindicated and believing he’d found the meaning to his life, chose faith. In retrospect, not such a great idea.
After making Castiel promise to keep his family safe, Jimmy became Castiel's vessel, and Cas rode him around every inch of the Earth, into every battlefield and against every demon. All the while, Jimmy was along for the ride, catching glimpses, feelings and tidbits of information. Things Castiel let him know and feel. It wasn't until a year later, when Castiel got called back to Heaven to be scolded, that Jimmy was allowed control over his body again.
Jimmy was ecstatic. He didn't want anything more to do with angels, demons, or the Apocalypse. All he wanted was his family. He knew how wrong he was; how little he knew about the path and life he'd chosen. He needed to get away from it all, but it was already too late. He was an angel's vessel now. Demons would want to know what makes him tick, and the fastest way to do that? Through his family. Despite Jimmy's best efforts at returning to normalcy, and despite the fact that he had to essentially beg his wife to take him back, he was a target, and his presence family in danger. Jimmy tried going back to normal, and it cost him dearly.
But Castiel promised. He promised his family would be safe. True enough, they were; but not before Jimmy's daughter became Castiel's new vessel, and Jimmy himself ended up dying bloodied on the floor. In his final moments, Jimmy begged and pleaded for Castiel to spare his only child; to take him instead. In the state he was in, being possessed meant Jimmy could never go back. He would remain a vessel forever; for as long as Castiel decided to keep him alive. Jimmy accepted; anything to spare his family further pain.
Jimmy Novak no longer believes in God. He knows He exists. Given that his whole life was spent praising the possibility of His existence, it makes staying angry a little difficult.
Personality: Jimmy is a family man. He loves his wife and daughter, loved his white picket fence and his quaint neighborhood. However, Jimmy is also deeply religious and wishes there were something more he could do to help the world. This is where Jimmy's faith came in handy; where Castiel comes in and proceeds to flip Jimmy's world upside-down. Possessed and flown and healed, all in the name of some Angelic cause, Jimmy loses his naïve faith.
After going through a year with Castiel, Jimmy is a changed man. He's seen his angels and everything he believed in, and seen how far from "angelic" they could truly be. Compared to that, his family shines brighter than anything else. After that, Jimmy Novak cares only about his family; Apocalypse be damned. He just wants them to be happy, and when he can't give them that by being there, he gives himself up in the only way he knows; by trading his life for their safety once again.
Thus, Jimmy is a guy who signed up for something that turned out to be way more than he could chew, but now, he's got no choice but to stick with it and accept that his life is over. If running would endanger his family, then Jimmy Novak will not run.
Doesn't mean he can't complain about how much his life sucks, of course.
Sexual Preferences/Orientation: Jimmy's straight. Well, as straight as any slightly-repressed male ever is, really. He's also stubbornly and determinedly monogamous. (Watch him try to stay faithful to his wife, the poor dear.) Religiously, he isn't so much against homosexuality as he is just a bit uncomfortable with it. Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve, that sort of thing. If people are in love, that's okay, just... well it's weird to him.
Powers: Speak to/Hear/See Angels; Jimmy can see Angels' true forms without being hurt in any way. He can hear their true voices and understand them normally, where most people only hear a high-pitch shrill or screech. He can "sense" them, to a minor degree.
And that's it!
