Really? Ive never had that problem before-not that I am saying it can't happen I am sure it has happened to lots of people lots of times.

Are you using a double-boiler for the chocolate?

I'm not used to these new... [There's a pause in her writing, as she searches her memory for the correct term.] I think someone called them "electric" stoves...

A double-boiler?... no, I don't have anything like that.

[Walter isn't really one to stick around the kitchen, especially with the new appliances making the room look rather ... alien. He pokes his head in when he smells something burning.]

...Is everything all right in here, Merines?

[She may not be able to get rid of this "refridgerator" or the fancy new stove, but she's at least put away the toaster, the blender, the mixer, and any other fancy electric thing out of sight in the lower cupboards.]

Um... everything's fine. ... I just burned some chocolate, that's all. [She's been burning a lot of food this week.] I'm sorry, has the smoke gotten into the rest of the house?

[Yes, she certainly has been burning a lot of food. The smoke's gonna be stuck to the walls forever at this rate.]

The smell, mostly. ...I'll start opening some of the windows.

[There ... have been a lot of salads in the Ferineshouse this week. And sandwiches. And cold cereal. And very hard boiled eggs.]

... thank you, Walter. [She pauses, awkwardly, in her scrubbing.] I'm sorry for bothering you...

[Fenimore has not been having fun with the new electric devices. For the most part, they made her nervous and she tried to ignore them as best she could.

This did not apply to the stove, though. The stove, she just hated.

She sighed as she smelled the by-now familiar smell of something burning. Granted, the specific food was unfamiliar, but she could guess that was its smell when burning. She wandered into the kitchen a couple of moments after she smelled it.]

Are you sure that you can't find the old stove anywhere?

[This stove... is an eyesore ಠ_ಠ Shirley is currently at the sink, scrubbing at the pot. At Fenimore's question, she sighs in both exasperation and longing for her functional stove.]

I'm sure... I haven't seen it at all when I've visited the shops. [Which has been... pretty much every day since the changeover.]

It's been too long to be one of those things they do, huh? [Especially now that she's learned from Senel's disappearance that people get brought to the Malnosso's cells to be experimented on in the more traditional sense, she refuses to call the village-wide events "experiments." In her mind, the latter were far too silly and harmless to be called that.] I'd rather you punching trees to having to deal with that [She lazily points her thumb in the direction of the stove.] and at least the other one was over in a week.

I think it's supposed to be some sort of reward... [Which, truth be told, leaves a sour taste in Shirley's mouth. She does not like the idea of the Malnosso using the villagers in their war against the third party. As such, she's frowning at the pot that she's scrubbing.] I don't think it's going to go away...

[It's the wrong time of month for an experiment anyway.]

I'm trying to make treats for Molly's easter egg hunt... but my stove doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me today. [More like it hasn't cooperated since they switched over to electricity, sob.]
