A point shoe, pirouettes, tights...Ballet makes me cry uncontrollably. I can't help it. Why do I have to sob quietly in class like an idiot? Can't I just control my emotions? It's just so beautiful. Opera will do that to me too. At the end of Rigoletto I was in tears. Of course can anyone relate? Could I ask any more questions? Russian people in ( Read more... )

privet, this is Darina from the slavic seminar.
I accidently stumbled upon your livejournal. Wow, so many things you said in this post are so close to me as well. I completely agree that there is not enough discipline in this country (looking at my younger brother). Sometimes I really miss home, even though there are so many things wrong with it. I want to go go back and live there after I'm done studying here. It's my ultimate goal. music education and art in general is great in Russia, as you saw from the movie. Eeven I had to take ballet when I was little (imagine a 6 foot ballerina, :-) Yeah, sorry a long comment,
see you on Monday

Wow! I'm so glad someone can relate to what I was thinking! I always get nostalgic when our teacher plays those movies about Russia because they remind me of Bulgaria. I too want to go back even though there is so much corruption and inefficiency. I actually talked about that in an earlier post. Remember that Window to Paris movie? They told the kids that wanted to stay in Paris "Russia may be wretched and bankrupt but it is your country. It is up to you to fix it." That made me really sad. I really like how the school system is disciplined in Europe. It made my parents strong whereas I see how the kids here aren't really prepared for the real world. It's cool that you want to go back to Russia. What are you going to work when you go back? Well, thanks for the comment! See you later!
