Aw, you're too kind. I really struggled to get a sort-of-accurate Matthew look I was satisfied with and then time was running out, so I'm surprised I don't hate it.
As a kid, after reading the Anne books, I tried to give landmarks in my own neighbourhood romantic names. As I live in New Zealand suburbia rather than lush, rural PEI, this was a little difficult.
Haha, I had the same problem. I once named a little swampy depression "Algae Pond". It was on a vacant lot. That is even sadder to type than I realized!
Some strips get all sorts of backstory and notes accumulating in the margins. Witness all sorts of scribbled out possibilities for names for futuristic versions of Avonlea, and aborted designs for a Rachel Lynde as a security robot.
I believe in Prince Edward Asteroid now, you know. One day we will find it, name it and terraform it, with dryads' bubbles and white ways of delight. And Mrs Rachel Lyndoid will keep a sharp eye out for invading aliens. (Also here via Kate Beaton's journal.)
Our prof for our kid's lit course (who's awesome) agrees that the first few Anne books are great, not so much after that. Personally I much preferred the Emily books. I loved your comic, especially the "wincey" part :-)
Just the first, back when I read it the first time. It stuck out enough that I can't see Matthew Cuthbert as anything but Richard Farnsworth, no matter how much LMM's description disagrees.

Also, I suspect the phrase 'Prince Edward Asteroid' has cheered me far beyond what it should.
