Nick had wanted to tell Wesley what had happened - how he'd had to process a crime scene involving a young woman and her son. The woman, brunette and beautiful, had just moved to Vegas to make a new life for herself. Instead of a new life, she ended up being another statistic. Another victim to the horrors of the world they lived in. If Nick didn't have Wesley and Owen to look forward to, he knew he would've died months ago

Nick knew Wesley would understand. Unlike Warrick, who'd merely slapped Nick on the back and told him to get some fresh air, Wesley knew why seeing a woman and her son murdered affected him so much. Maybe he hadn't been there when Fred died, but Wes had painted a clear enough picture for Nick to feel like he had been. And sometimes Nick wished he would've been there for Fred too - to help Wesley hold her during her last minutes of life

Wesley nodded as Nick explained how what he had seen went beyond even Fred, to the whole idea that someone could do something so horrible to a defenseless woman and child. He had seen it himself - demons and vampires picking on those who couldn't fight back
