Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy? She is a 13-year-old girl going through growth spurts and puberty. For the moment she is a little bit on the thin side, but that's mostly because of eating healthy (for the most part.) That and she learned from an early age not to pig out too much during a meal. It's rude. Looking at you, Luffy
2. How old is she? 13 going on 14 by this summer. idk when.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch? She doesn't hold herself awkwardly for the most part, and does keep good posture. Slouching only makes her back hurt.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Haruka is fit for the most part, but it probably wouldn't hurt for her to run around the gym a few times. Running over a really long distance will get her out of breath, she doesn't have that kind of stamina just yet. Otherwise she's got no disabilities I can think of.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Fairly graceful, I guess, as graceful as a 13-year-old can be? At least one that hasn't done beauty pageants or whatever to really get that flowing look down.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror? Mamoru once described Haruka as someone who will be a "real beauty" when she is older, judging by the contours of her face. Haruka probably is going through what all 13-year-olds go through, especially in this day and age, with low self-esteem. Haruka likely sees herself as a plain girl who tries to be pretty but doesn't know how to very well. Having a dead mother doesn't give you a lot of people to turn to for advice. Maybe Juliet and Sierra can help with that.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? Typical Japanese pale skin. Probably a few freckles if she's out in the sun too long.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style. Straw-colored hair, fairly thin volume, which she usually wears down but does tie up two long strands into separate pony-tails. Also has bangs.
9. What color are her eyes? A light brown-gray mixture.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Earrings?
11. What are her chief tension centers? Back, and head. First one from cooking, second one from premonitions.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit? Haruka likes a cute wardrobe with pastel pinks and other spring colors. But she does wear darker colors during the fall and winter season, even though she'll try and incorporate a pastel pink into each outfit. Maybe nail polish, maybe a barette, or, on occasion, lip gloss.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them? Haruka doesn't like clothes that are too loose and prefers tops that are a little on the tight-fit side, except not too tight. She also loves short shorts and short skirts, though she doesn't show off too much leg - instead she'll wear knee-high socks or tights. Often wears dress shoes with a buckle instead of tennis shoes.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences? HARUKA IS NOT AN ADULT. though I can imagine her looking cute in an official-looking work outfit.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Training bra and Sanrio underwear.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Probably more on the high side considering her age and her race. But not too high. Mid-high?
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate? Haruka tends to stutter and say "um" and "uh" too much if she doesn't catch herself in time. If she really has confidence in something they won't show up much, if at all. Around Mamoru she tries to keep her voice on the soft side, because she doesn't want to startle him (but lol how does one startle Mamoru anyway.)
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Tokyo accent I guess?
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency? Japanese, and for the sake of C&C, English.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Only if the person she's talking to speaks Japanese also.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words? Being a precog means she has to choose her words carefully all the time. Especially with strangers.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? She's thirteen. Still learning vocabulary words, but doesn't want to sound too simple. So... 50/50?
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart? Book-smart. Haruka tries to be a good student and read all of her books ahead of time for a class, so she'll feel more confident when school goes back in session. Little more on the intelligent side than average because of her precog abilities.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate? After the advice on what Mamoru told her to do, Haruka tries to think on her feet even more than usual. Because "the moment you hesitate, you die" has stayed with her. But it's still a work in progress.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Logical/intuitive/practical I guess. Definitely more practical than idealistic, because losing her parents hit her hard in terms of keeping a naive childhood. More intuitive than logical, but the logic is still there to keep her from going down a slippery slope in her head.
4. What kind of education has the character had? Before her parents died, regular school. After, it's been on-and-off. She tried maybe a month of school in canon, then had to leave and was homeschooled by Igawa, then has recently been enrolled into high school. 13-year-old in high school = very nervous little girl.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about? Haruka's learning self-defense and kendo on Mamoru's orders, and also partly because she wants to. She doesn't want to be Mamoru's ward for the rest of her life, and eventually would fancy him seeing her as an equal. But that'd be off in the faaar future, considering his expertise and skill.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert? I think it depends on who she's surrounded by - strangers, she's either an introvert because she gets a bad feeling around them, or extrovert as a defense-mechanism around other students/etc. At home with the Wall and Mamoru she feels more able to express herself and strikes up conversations without any nudging. Though can still act unsure at times, especially if Mamoru is angry.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Haruka's a teenage girl, there are going to be mood swings. Mamoru's been puzzled by it more than a few times. Definitely not lazy, but she does like to pace herself. Stress is not something she enjoys and she does not like to leave things for the last minute. Haruka by nature is a cheerful girl, she's just had a lot of hardships to go through.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? Introversion. And depends on the "feeling" she gets from reading them, but kind of keeps newcomers at arm's length - she has to, because she doesn't want anyone to get in danger at her expense, and also because the Wall moves her around so much. She'll start speaking up more and joining in conversation if she feels safe, and that the person she's talking to will remain safe.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react? Uhh, I don't quite understand this question. React, I guess? Once again, teenager.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight? Flight. Trying to re-wire herself to fight instead, but it's difficult.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? Haruka tries bringing up jokes, but it's harder to do so when she's surrounded by serious adults. Igawa appreciates them at least.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them? Nope. Maybe trauma, but yeah.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person? Her parents' deaths, and jumping out a car full of Yakuza to chase after Mamoru - who was then a complete stranger. But she knew he would be her savior if she could just catch up to him.
14. What does she fear? Mamoru's death, the people she cares about being hurt or killed. Getting caught by the Yakuza and being experimented on/tortured to death.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations? Able to walk outside freely, as herself, without worry. Getting Mamoru to smile.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her? That she's starting to enjoy her new life with Mamoru more than she did with her parents back home.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents. THEY ARE DEAD. From the photographs illustrated of her family together, though, looks like a nice friendly compact family. Only child, seems to have gone on a few vacations and had fun. Dad looks like a fun-loving guy while mother was probably more serious.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? No siblings.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand? Only one canon knows of is her grandmother, which has been informed of Haruka's targeting by the Yakuza, but I imagine she has cousins. She just can't ever see them again.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them? Mamoru is the closest person in her life, and she's seen images of him as her future husband. Igawa is like an older brother, and Sierra is like a step-in mom. Juliet is probably the immature/bratty aunt.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Mamoru, once again, closest person in her life. Met by chance when Haruka jumped out of a speeding car, the rest is history.
6. Does she have other close friends? The Wall, back home, and some friends she's made at C&C as well. Himuro, Zoro (her stand-in Mamoru for some time), Bakura, Kiryu, Hiruma, Josh Newman, Calvin, Sanji, and probably will be closer to Luffy in the future as well. Just by nature is an arm's-length kind of person.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people? Haruka doesn't have trouble with making friends in school during canon whatsoever. She's friendly and cute and therefore looks approachable by most of her classmates.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends? She doesn't see a difference in the two terms, considering her family is gone. Her friends are her family.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once? Future!husband.
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? Nope.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest? Probably some cool boy in school way back when, but that is history now. She only has eyes for Mamoru.
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner? Protection, strength, understanding, love.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any? Haha nooo. But I imagine she wants kids.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies? Juliet?
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the
Kinsey scale? Straight as straight can be.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her? SHE'S THIRTEEN. She's already had the "talk" before, but is way too shy to ever mention it ever. Ever. Ever.
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? Thirteen.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does she fit type? Um, I guess she's one of the summer signs. Maybe Cancer. Or Taurus. or whatever.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life? Probably a little religious? Not very spiritual I imagine because I can see her spitefully blaming whatever gods possible for what happened to her parents. Maybe later in life.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? Haruka has a very strong belief of not wanting to run away anymore and let someone be killed - obviously because of the parent thing. She doesn't want anyone else to die before her, and there is no compromise for that.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? Considering Juliet's belief on Sierra, Haruka doesn't take it very well. Haruka calls her a "devil woman," in some translations of the manga. Also, once again, teenager.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them? Hates Yakuza, well except maybe for Senji. Senji's okay. Hates all illegal acts except for what the Wall does. The Wall's okay. (You see where I'm going with this?)
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? Haruka will never have to worry about money. She can predict winning lottery cards, and in the manga, it is said she has a lot of savings in the bank. Too bad she can't withdraw them until her twenties.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her? Middle-class. I wouldn't be able to say if it's more on the rich or poor side, but probably richer. Though from the looks of her childhood home, not many amenities. Probably all put into savings for later.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others? Hell Towers 10th floor with Himuro, opposite side of the hall from the boys. Alastair's too scared they have cooties.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on? Cute outfits, CDs, maybe an iPad in the future or a PSP, or a Nintendo DS. Probably Nintendo considering she's Japanese.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else? Haruka goes to school because she's thirteen. Also does very few hours part time at Bakura's toy shop, considering labor laws. You could almost call it volunteering.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time? Haruka loves to cook, and wants to learn more recipes. She's kind of wanting to learn how to be a housewife ahead of time. But the most important thing to her about cooking is having someone to share a meal with.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? Haruka tries not to make any unpleasant sounds, or loud crunching, or what-have-you, as that wouldn't be ladylike. Also, as stated earlier, taught early in life to eat slowly and not pig out. Also she's thirteen so no alcohol.
