Sam hurts. His body aches, it's tired and still in pain, his bandaging clumsy. But that's not the bad part. The bad part is the deeper pain, the part that hears you're a monster, Sam and pick a hemisphere. And that's what has him finding a quiet corner of the Mansion to sit down and lower his face into his hands ( Read more... )

It's been a few days since the wolves attacked, and Guinevere has only just now started sleeping again, though her dreams are haunted with many fears, not all of them lupine-related.

She's spoken to Muraki, told him to look for Sebastian, but she hasn't seen Sam, and she's worried about him too - she may not be explicitly looking for him, but he's in the back of her mind, like unfinished business that needs to be addressed.

When she sees him, her eyes fill with tears - and she says, very softly...

"Samuel?"

Ah. Sam wonders if someone was listening, and wonders just as much what he can possibly...say. He doesn't know. For the moment, he lets his hands slip down and turns (his whole body, his shoulder hurts like fuck) to look at her. "Just Sam," he says, and manages a false smile. "Remember?"

Pause.

"Hey Guinevere."

Guinevere looks profoundly worried, and hurries to his side. She takes it in - his state, how miserable he looks, and his shoulder, and -

“-- you are hurt,” she says, ineffectually, ever the one to state the obvious.

Her eyes are filling with tears already. “-- let me - have you been tended to?”

Sam just looks more awkward, and for a moment, more unhappy and tense, but it fades quickly and he just kind of goes limp. "Just by me," he says, with a tired smile. "At least - well, yeah. Me. I'm sorry, it's been kind of a bad day..."

He can imagine that he looks a sight.

Of course, this ignores the fact that the other times she's seen him have been bad days too, and she probably has noticed that. Sam doesn't have a whole lot of good days lately.
