Why is fandom (the writers I enjoy anyway) disappearing down a huge sink marked 'Avengers' at the moment? Everything's comics/graphic novels/superhero flicks. OTOH I have a mild kink for xenobiology, genderfluidity and Norse myth, so I enjoy odd bits of Thorki I've read. Although I tend to like Loki and think Thor is A Bit Thick Really ( Read more... )

I remember a while back (maybe 2005?) being extremely frustrated by a bunch of writers I liked leaving Due South fandom for fandoms I wasn't interested in, then there's been the big (more recent) migration over to Teen Wolf, which again did nothing for me. There will probably be something else that thoughtless writers who I like shouldn't be writing to which they will flock in droves when they ought to be focussing on the fandoms I enjoy... ;)

Don't see any chance of the Marvel stranglehold on fandom easing up any time soon, since we've got Thor 2, the Winter Soldier movie, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 2 to look forward to over the next couple of years. Not that I'm complaining, as the sheer size of the fandom helps ensure that there's something out there to read that works for me, even if I feel like I'm picking up the original canon by osmosis as time goes on... What I do like about Marvel is that a lot of the creative folks involved with it are massive fanboys/fangirls themselves. I think their enthusiasm is catching and ( ... )

It was a bloody good movie. I've never read any of the comics, but I went to see the Avengers movie with Henry and then went a second time because I enjoyed it so much.

Though I would like to see more Sherlock fic.

Coming in a bit late to the party...I'm just hoping that having new Sherlock (which we should soon) will reinvigorate the fandom. There are stories being written, just a quality deficiency. IMO.
