Having inspected the portrait in the Hall of the Missing repeated times over a period of seven days, and thereby subjecting it to several carefully controlled experimental procedures such as removing and replacing it, manipulating its hanging position, covering its contents, and other such basic peripheral alterations, we are forced to conclude that its presence there is indeed genuine, and therefore beyond experimental control to affect.
Reinette Poisson, more famously known as Madame de Pompadour, has escaped the City.
Presumably, this means tea has been indefinitely suspended, as her departure has left us with neither box nor hostess. Please make note of this and respond accordingly.

Strategically, of course, because it means he's lost one of his most reliable allies, but perhaps a little bit emotionally, too. Maybe just a little.
