Character's Name: Bugsy
Series: Pokemon
Timeline: End of Gold/Silver
Canon Resource Link: Bug off!

Personality: Bugsy is the cheerful gym leader of Azalea Town. He is an expert in bug pokemon and claims to never lose when it comes to them. Between his research and his pokemon expertise, Bugsy has been dubbed "The Walking Bug Pokemon Encyclopedia". He takes stakes his victory chances in his research, later saying it is not yet complete when he loses to the player.

He is a child prodigy. Despite being the youngest of the Johto gym leaders, he's more mature than, say, Whitney. As far as book-smarts go, he's not the cold, calculating type but he does boast his accomplishments. He discovered the move Fury Cutter, which is his prized move in the original Gold and Silver games. In Heart Gold, U-Turn is his money maker. He endorses research when he loses as well. He's simply crazy about it!

When Bugsy is not in the gym, he can be found outside in his natural territory, the forest. Bugsy is extremely kind to bug pokemon, though his status as gym leader can perhaps extend this to all pokemon... He just especially loves his bugs.

He tends to get mistaken for a girl. I don't think the CLAMP School Detectives short shorts help much.

What your character can offer: He's a gym leader! And he likes bugs. And research.

What items will they be bringing with them? Bugsy is coming in with the clothes on his back, some Hive Badges, his bug catching net, and his pokemon: Kakuna, Metapod, and Scyther.

Third-Person Sample: Bugsy could have sworn he fell asleep in the forest. Where he found himself was definitely not the forest. For one, where he found himself lacked the sleepy charm of afternoon foliage, and for another, the bug pokemon that crawled about, the bug pokemon he loved so much, were nowhere to be found. Bugsy jumped to his feet and glanced around. The grip on his trusty net tightened (and no, he had not wrapped around it in his sleep as if it was a teddy bear!). All around him: barren land. In his other hand, what looked like a PokeGear with "use me" on the screen.

Sure, that was a curious thing to see, but Bugsy had learned after his research years of late that it was not such a strange thing to find objects that said "I thought you would find this useful" or "here’s the data you requested!" waiting for him when he entered his gym. He began pressing the buttons as he would use his own PokeGear, however he was completely distracted at the sight of a small black flash skittering away. The PokeGear could wait; if he didn't act fast, he would lose sight of it for sure!

There was a flash in Bugsy's eyes just before he dashed off after the creature. Right when he thought he was close enough to catch the fleeing insect and slammed his net on the ground, it squirmed just an inch away and halted. Bugsy wasn't an amateur bugcatcher. The moment the bug froze, so did he. He crouched down slowly, the bug taking a few strides away, and he closely crawled on the dirt toward his prey. He was quiet yet his heart was pounding in his ears; nothing quite gave him the rush of capturing a bug he'd never seen before other than encountering a trainer worthy of a Hive Badge.

Like a bug himself, Bugsy inched closer. Finally he extended his arm to welcome the creature, mentally forcing it to stop shaking with excitement. The insect -- a phyllobius calcaratus, he realized -- eventually crawled into his hand. Bugsy cupped it gently and then allowed it to crawl over his forearm. It’s only then that he let the grin form. He plucked the bug up. Lifting it into the air, he watched it squirm from above and then from various angles.

He still needed to get back to his gym, there was no helping that. This discovery only made the detour meaningful. Perhaps he didn't need to return to the Azalea Gym immediately. Just for research, he mentally added, finishing his examination of the beetle. Completely for the sake of research.

First-Person Sample: 000 | Video

[ The communicator clicks on to a purple haired boy -- assuming that is a boy, the voice is, after all, a little high pitched -- fiddling around with it. At last he grins, apparently noting the record button. ]

--oo? Helloooooo? If you're on the other line, can you say something for me? This PokeGear is a little outdated, if I say so myself. -- Oh, there it is! Whoever is listening, could you tell me which route takes me to Azalea Town? I have to get back before any trainers come to challenge me! So far I've gathered that this is not Johto. Even if it’s a long journey, it's really important that I go back.

[ He sighs quickly, throwing out a pokeball. His Scyther pops out, looking pleased to be out and about but somewhat out-of-place in the unfamiliar scenery. ]

C'mon, Scyther! We're not going to wait for somebody to come and find us! We gotta get back fast.

PERMISSIONS.

Out-of-character activity:
  1. Backtagging: I'm the queen of backtagging. No matter how long a thread takes to finish up, I'll gladly move to your beat!
  2. Threadhopping: I don't really like it, to be honest, but I don't mind. Threadhop away if it's IC.
  3. Fourthwalling: I think it's pretty hilarious, especially with this guy, so feel free to do it. Just give me a head's up so I know you're not. Like. Whatever.
  4. Canon puncturing: Go for it.
  5. Offensive subjects: I'm really hard to offend so there's not much you could do to offend me. The only thing that really offends Bugsy is bug haet, probably. He's a little kiddo so he might not get sexual jokes and he doesn't really swear, but I'm all up for figureing out how he would react, so.

In-character activity:
  1. Hugging this character: He might be confused, but sure.
  2. Kissing this character: Unless it's on the forehead and done so by a female character in a very motherly way, I'd rather not. But I'm really relaxed so I'd be like "BWAHAHAHA" so why not?
  3. Flirting with this character: YES. Only because I think he would not understand it and if he did, be super awkward.
  4. Fighting with this character: He'll have his Scyther fight for him but in the strange offchance he does get into a physical fight, I think it might be cute, so...run it by me first.
  5. Injuring this character: Run it by me first. As long as it's minor, I'm pretty okay with it, but don't go lopping off his limb or something.
  6. Killing this character: Please don't. I'm not planning to have him die in Discedo unless it's for an event.
  7. Using telepathy or mind reading abilities on this character: He doesn't have any defenses against this kind of this so sure. BUGS, BUGS, BUGS!
