Hello, I am happy to have found this community. I am newly pregnant a second time. First one was a miscarriage. I am 44 and have no family support or guidance. I am happy to have a place to share my experience with other pregnant woman here at lj. We have our first ultrasound this afternoon and I am anxious and excited. Haven't been sleeping well ( Read more... )

I was a miserable sleeper during pregnancy. I was uncomfortable from the moment I found out all the way to the end. I often would get up in the middle of the night to eat or get water. I also got pretty terrible leg cramps at night.

My anxiety over pregnancy didn't help either and often made sleeping worse. I was exhausted most of the time from normal pregnancy stuff and poor sleep habits.

I did have some success with adjusting a few things. I know it's frowned upon, but I would have a snack before bed and keep granola bars as well as water and crackers on my nightstand. I used calming music, totally avoided caffeine, turned off my phone and computer and showered and read at least a chapter of a real book. If I woke up early I would read or do some gentle yoga, or listen to music. It didn't always work, but it did keep my anxiety levels to a minimum.

Thank you estenirvana, it's nice to know I am not alone in the world. I will try your suggestions and see if I can get back into a normal sleep pattern :)

I recommend joining the month you are due on babycenter. Way more active than the lj groups nowadays. Girls can get dramatic there sometimes but easy to avoid.
