And originally, she asked if you agree with her, how she could educate people about the dangers of hair dye while pregnant

Oh boy.

I know I've heard that as long as you dye your hair in a well-ventilated area you will be fine...but that goes for people who aren't pregnant too!!

Sigh. I wish I wasn't b& from pregnant. I am missing so many lols.

It was so odd...it read very: "I know there is nothing to back this up, but how do I convince people to think like me?"

I don't get the flaming. She has an opinion its unsafe, she's probably sick of being told it is safe (come on, no-one wants to be told they are wrong do they?) and is wondering if people think the same way as her and why they do. I personally of the 'no dyeing in pregnancy' mindset, though not because I think its unsafe. I just cannot be dealing with the hassle of it, and strong smells, no matter how well ventilated, bring on my morning sickness, so I just don't.

Though I get that her 'educate' comment has rubbed people up the wrong way. I think if she had basically asked for what to say to people to get them to respect her view point she might not have seriously hacked off people.

part of the problem is she isn't tired of people telling her it's safe... she's trying to convince her friends and family that they CAN'T do it because it's UNSAFE! If you read her comments, a good friend mentioned she was now blond at 10w and the OP was trying to convince her about why she can never ever do that again.

I didn't know it was ok to post to a comm like pregnant to ask for fodder to win an internet argument, either :/

She's the one trying to convince someone else that it's unsafe, and is pissy that the other person has all this "research" and "scientific evidence" on her side.

I highlighted my hair approximately 4 times for each pregnancy. My children were born healthy and beautiful and continue to be. My anteceda beats hers. :)

I'm 6 1/2 months along with my third child and at the moment my hair is copper with blonde bangs, and my natural color is dark brown. With my first my hair was pink, teal, and I delivered him with purple and blonde hair. With my second I dyed it various shades of red. I think I have enough anecdote to swing the scales even further away from her side!

i just have to say, i am giggling, because when i read this:
and I delivered him with purple and blonde hair
I had the mental image of the BABY being born with purple and blonde hair, and was thinking "Wow, that is some powerful dye!"

then i realized i was an idiot and it was you with the purple and blonde hair.

Hahahaha, oh yeah, probably should have been clearer! When he came out I was a bit grumbley at one of the nurses who said "Oh, he doesn't have purple hair..." because she'd been a judgmental twit the whole time until then because of my hair and piercings. It was a rough birth (complete with epidural that wore off on one side!) and most of what I remember is pain and that comment :(

the only thing my midwives told me was that in the first trimester to be wary, just because the color could come out wonky. other than that, color away, and i did.

I heard that it's not a good idea to dye your hair in the first trimester as well, but I thought that it was because of the "potential" harm to the fetus... I had no idea it was because the color might be wonky. I wonder why that happens. Hormones? But there aren't hormones in dead hair...

i'm wanting to say it's got to do with the chemicals and the hormones mixing can cause the hair color to come out a funny color. something like that, i think :) i didn't try it out to see, so i waited till i was around 5-6 months before i colored again lol

Ahhh.. that makes sense. Stupid pregnancy hormones ruin everything.
