Seriously off-topic post, potentially disturbing

I used to always read the newspaper every day, but recently I’ve been so busy, I’ve let the papers pile up.

Today I had a moment, and settled down with the New York Times.

If this:

is a fantasy, and reality looks like this:

At 18 months, Kyle Warren started taking a daily antipsychotic drug on the orders of a pediatrician trying to quell the boy’s severe temper tantrums.

.Thus began a troubled toddler’s journey from one doctor to another, from one diagnosis to another, involving even more drugs. Autism, bipolar disorder, hyperactivity, insomnia, oppositional defiant disorder. The boy’s daily pill regimen multiplied: the antipsychotic Risperdal, the antidepressant Prozac, two sleeping medicines and one for attention-deficit disorder. All by the time he was 3 [years old].

and this:

a young couple were stoned to death last week in northern Afghanistan for trying to elope, in a grim sign of the Taliban’s resurgence. And last month, an international campaign rose up in defense of an Iranian woman, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who had been sentenced to death by stoning on adultery charges. [The method is to bury the person up to his waist if a man, or her chest if a woman, and to hurl stones “not so big as to kill immediately” and to continue until the person is dead.

And then, to balance the insanity,  this:

Pastor Plans to Burn Koran

Then I’ll take my fantasy, thank you.

What planet do these people live on? I have no idea what they are thinking, what could lead them to these decisions and actions. Actually, I do have an idea - I just can’t imagine anyone actually taking these actions.

Pssst - hey you, my friends. Let’s buy an island somewhere, or a small planet, and just get out of here.
