In response to a co-worker rambling about the Space Shuttle replacement program and "Aero-Spike Engines" and advancing space technologies he read about on Wikipedia and other information sources, I started rambling about P-Funk's Mothership Connection and Starchild's Bop Gun armament

Haven't people been rambling about the "aero spike" engine designs for a good decade now? I seem to remember some Popular Science article about the "X-somethingorother Space Plane" design back in the late 90s and how it had such engines on it.
