Since I first read Gates of Fire, I've been trying to figure out which actors and actresses most closely represent my mental image of the various characters. I think I've figured out Dienekes.
Jeremy is fantastic. What jogged my memory about him was seeing him as the amusingly dense news reporter in "Scary Movie 3." It made me remember that I'd really liked him in Black Hawk Down and the other movies I've seen him in. Also, I think he fits the bill in the looks department, though I might be wrong.
I won't say who I think should play Alexandros, though I have an idea (probably a bad one), so that I don't influence your own mental images. When you get around to reading it, tell me how you like it! It's my favorite book. :D
Oooo, this is tough. I always form my own mental images, not really based on anyone in particular, when I read books.
I think Eric Bana might be a good Dienekes... a little older, more disciplined warrior. He gives the feeling of having seen many battles and having no illusion of what combat consists of.
I could see Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian from, well, "Prince Caspian") as Alexandros.
Polynikes and Xeo... those are tough. I have very specific images of them... Hmm. I'll have to think on them a bit.
YOU. YOU ARE MY HERO. I TOTALLY THOUGHT BEN BARNS AS ALEXANDROS! AND ERIC BANA AS SOMEBODY! Eric Bana should be in every movie ever made. He's just that awesome.
Hmm. What about Rooster? He's another hard one. And Polynikes is very particularly described, so of course he'd be hard to cast...
Or Arete? Paraleia? I have no idea. I think "Spartan woman" and see Lena Heady. *grin*
Munich was fantabulous, I loved it. I meant to see it with kylethoreau but I guess we missed each other in the lobby, because I ended up seeing it by myself. Turned out it was one of those movies where I needed to see it by myself, anyway. :P
I loves Eric Bana. I have a small, 14-year-old-girlish shrine to him on my bedroom door. No, I'm not kidding.
Wow. That photo needs to be updated. My bedroom door is now a collage of random crap.

I need to read the book first, so I can give you some idea.

It would be very difficult to cast a better Spartan woman than Lena Heady as Queen Gorgo!
