Belmont Stakes

I was really hoping for Big Brown to win the Triple Crown, but I think the jockey definitely did the right thing by easing off when he started to think there was something wrong. I'd rather Big Brown get dead last than be ridden to death.

When I watched the replay, you could see the jockey was asking BB for more speed and the horse just stopped running... like he didn't want to run anymore.

He has TERRIBLE hooves and I hope he isn't a huge success as a stud, as they are a genetic problem.

An article I read quoted the jockey as saying, "there are no popped tires, he just ran out of gas."

He's such a fantastic horse. Absolutely beautiful. But yes, the genetic problem is, well, a problem.

Horses are so amazing.

Thoroughbreds are like sports cars, though. Fast and beautiful, but so much upkeep and maintenance. I'll take a cowpony anyday. Still beautiful, but they will go for ever over any terrain on water, prairie grass, and a few kind words. And, they have a fantastic disposition. I miss them hosses...

I love horses of all sorts, though I haven't had much chance to be around them - I took lessons when I was about 12, and I used to ride some of the local horses in Costa Rica until I was about 14. That's about it. My dad's mother trained Tennessee Walking Horses when she was younger, though!

And I'm planning on going horseback riding at Forever Florida later in the year, when it's not so boiling hot! I kinda want to do the Overnight Trail Ride Safari for my birthday.

Wow! That looks amazing! I haven't ridden since I got hurt and want to ride again very badly. I used to ride quite a bit.

Like I said, not as much horsemanship in my past as I'd have liked, but I think horses are fantastic. The only time I didn't appreciate a horse was down in Costa Rica, when the stablehand was taking the reins from me and before he could grab them after I'd let go of them, it did a standing leap four feet up onto a terrace thingie. Good thing I have decent balance...
