I am truly disgusted by this. Meyer didn't yell 'fire' in a crowded venue, he didn't threaten the safety of Kerry or anyone else in the room -- he simply asked a question.
Granted, he was slightly more passionate than most, but that doesn't justify having six police officers pouncing on him, dragging him to the floor and tasing him.
Last time I checked, America is a democracy that affords the right of free speech to its citizens. It is not a police state...but judging by this video, you really wouldn't know the difference, would you?

Oh, but that was only after they had previously asked him in a calm manner to please step away from the microphone to which he responded with a threatening tone of voice, yelling at them that he wasn't finished. After he kept asking questions (and at these events, becaue I've been to them, you're asked to only bring one question because there's many people with many questions and in order to try and get to everyone, the polite thing to do is not to hog the mic) the police tried to ease him away from the podium (note, this is the second time they'd intervened - as the first was when they asked him to please hurry), in response he went batshit and started flailing around and screaming HELP HELP. Flailing and hitting the officers. Only two of them initially attempted to restrain him and move him away from the mic, but when he used force against the police officers and RESISTED
( ... )
So, I guess to stupid people... asking a question at a question and answer session constitutes screaming and flailing.
Awesome. Wow... there are some people that DO deserve to be tased... with electrified baseball bats.
I'm glad that there are some people in this world refuse to shut up. Even when confronted by derisive ASSHOLES like the above poster...
Also, I wonder if this moron who posts to your blog has considered that no one actually read this kid his rights, no one told him he was under arrest, the police never even told him he had to leave... they simply grabbed him and started dragging him away.
He legitimately asked "Am I under arrest?" "What am I being arrested for?" It's FUCKING idiots like the poster above who think that we don't have the RIGHT to be answered when those questions have been asked.
I'm torn on whether or not I hope that the ACLU helps this kid to sue Tampa for some compensation for the completely outrageous conduct of those officers.
Oh and if people were properly trained to use weapons as it should be... and guns were ALLOWED in MORE places, not LESS... armed citizenry and the threat of armed citizenry would result in FAR fewer situations like VT. The police don't have the responsibility to "Serve and Protect" anyone but the state. Court case after court case has stated that police have ZERO liability to do so... I'd guess that 90% of what the police do exists simply to increase their budget.
Private security could handle everything the cops do for far less money.
