[ONE-SHOT] A Sea of Blue
He stood close to the edge of the stage, smiling widely at the wide expense of fans in front of him. All around, people waved the blue lightsticks and pearl sapphire blue balloons, all cheering and smiling and singing along.
Just a few metres away stood Eunhyuk holding a stuffed anchovy toy, smiling the infamous gummy smile. Leeteuk wasn't that far away as well, wearing angel wings on his back.
He knew that he should be happy and he was. He was proud of the fact that he was able to make it so far and that he was well-loved by many. But the nagging feeling still tugged at the stray threads of his heart…
Just a few days ago, he had opened his eyes to a brand new day, feeling very much rejuvenated and anticipating the day ahead. He had expected some sort of acknowledgement but none came.
As the hours passed, he felt his heart sink lower and lower, his demeanor becoming more and more withdrawn.
That night, as he sat on the couch with Ryeowook with voices and sounds blaring from the television set in front of them, there was still nothing.
Exasperated, he turned to Ryeowook.
"Ryeowook…"
"Yes, hyung?"
"Do you know what day it is?"
"Oh. It's 15th October, hyung."
"…"
He didn't know what to say for Ryeowook had turned his attention back to the screen.
"Ryeowook."
"Yes?"
"It's my birthday today."
That's right. Just a few days ago, it was Lee Donghae's birthday. Yep, The Donghae from Super Junior. It was then that he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. It was a text message from Shindong.
Happy birthday Donghae! ^^
That was the first (and perhaps only) birthday wish he had received on that day.
Now, as he bounced on the balls of his feet, he couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as he thought of the many other birthdays before his. Yesung had a small gathering…Ryeowook had a birthday cake…even Leeteuk was surprised with a cake from the fans during Sukira....
His smile faded a little.
As Ryeowook's voice trailed off and so did the last few beats of the song, the fans cheered once more, making him force a smile onto his face once more. For them. For ELF.
But his curiosity perked up and sniffed hopefully at the air when Leeteuk started to speak into the mic.
"A few days ago…"
Yeah yeah a few days ago, a few days ago…it's always a few days ago isn't it?
"…when Eunhyukkie and I were on Sukira, we were wondering if…."
Huh. Right. That's for being hopeful. Sigh…there goes another year. Uncelebrated.
"…we should give a special somebody a surprise…"
The lengths that you'd go for this "surprise", hyung…
"…and we felt very sorry because a few days ago…"
A few days ago again!
"…we didn't get to have a proper gathering…"
For…?
"….and so....EUNHYUKKIE!! Go go!"
Huh?! He didn't have time to react for Eunhyuk had snuck over while he was still immersed in his own thoughts and smeared a chunk of cake across his cheek.
"EUNHYUKKIEEEEE!!!!!"
He yelled and jerked away in surprise, staring at Eunhyuk as if he had grown an extra head. Then, he started to move.
He grabbed the can of whip cream that he had spotted peeking out of Eunhyuk's pocket and ran after the latter while trying to spray the whip cream at the same time.
But as he darted round Kangin and Siwon, he felt two pairs of arms wrap themselves around him to stop him from moving. He yelped in surprise and attempted to wriggle out of their grasp but wasn't able to. That was when he saw Heechul running over with several bottles of water and he wriggled even more, pushing and shoving until he was finally able to struggle out of the tangle of arms.
Meanwhile, Leeteuk was laughing at the scene, his laughter amplified across the entire stadium.
He couldn't help but run a hand through his hair and allow peals of laughter to erupt from his mouth as he watched Kyuhyun and Yesung who were the furthest from him run from the other end of the stadium to the end he was at.
There were screams and much laughter as, unbeknownst to him, Heechul and Sungmin opened a few bottles of water and poured them all over him, making him shiver and gasp in shock from the sudden chill.
He was soaked.
Laughter rang out as Eunhyuk teased him, saying that as a fish, he should be drenched.
That has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! ^^
But as he watched Leeteuk approach with a fish-shaped cake with pearl sapphire blue icing, as he watched the members crowd around him, as he watched his beloved ELF clap and cheer, Donghae couldn't help but feel like the luckiest person fish in the world.
He knew…....that he will have his revenge on Eunhyuk, Heechul and Sungmin. Later.
But meanwhile…
He yelled to the sea of blue.
"ELF ARE MINE!!!!!!!!"
